My 03 RX300 AWD is getting some squeaking noise from the rear driver side strut mount. Over any bump , or when rocking the taigate, it is quite loud.

Is this the strut mount?
With 142k miles, should I just go ahead and have all 4 struts replaced?
What struts are best for the price?
Is this a DIY job, or best left to a shop? Any estimates on installation costs?

The squeaking noise is more than likely a strut mount, but one must inspect other suspension components as well.

Price wise it makes more sense to replace the struts at the same time.
Note: When I changed my rear struts and rear strut mounts at 160k miles, my struts were still in good condition and were not leaking.

Depends on how much experience you have, most of the work is quite simple. The only hard/dangerous part is getting the spring off of the strut.

The best struts are KYB's, for the strut mount stick with OEM.

 

Is there any risk in not replacing these strut mounts when they are making noise? Any safety issue?

 

No safety risks with worn strut mounts, that I'm aware of anyway. Struts are a different story though.

 

Any idea on the costs of having this repair done?
