Default 2004 RX Wishlist

There's been a few threads about what it
looks like...Here's what I want in/on it:

•Dual Zone Climate Control: Easy

•Steering Wheel Stereo Controls: On the wheel, around the horn.

•Telescoping Steering Wheel: Hey, the GS has it.

•17" wheels w/18" option: Easy

•Better Cupholders: I open the drawer and anything that has any real mass in there begins to rattle. I keep a bandana in there for rattle control...

•Mark Levinson: Gee whiz, at least a bigger subwoofer.

•Stubby Antenna: Like the LS...Inspired by Shonuff.

•Cooled Seats: My forecast today? 9/19/02? 86ºF w/77%RH...'Nuff Said!

•Door locks: Engage @5MPH.

•Cruise Controls: On the wheel around the horn...Thumbtastic! The stick stinks.

•Saddle Colored Leather: Mmmm....

Default wish list

1. How about abandoning the non-functional VC AWD system in favor of the Sequoia's "virtual" AWD system. Less expensive to manufacture and one hell of a lot more functional. That would also give us a 50/50 F/R torque bias.

2. An adequate windshield defog system would help one hell of a lot.

3. A climate control sensor for the human comfort aspects of radiant heating/cooling so the system does switch to cooling mode would our human metabolism says it wants/needs HEAT.

4. Rear wheel suspension clearance for larger wheel and tire setups AND adequate space for the use of snow chains.

5. For those of you willing to purchase a captive nav system in teh future a Nav firmware fix would be extremely nice.

6. Remotely operated rear windowlet vents.

7. Cruise control. How about automatically sensing the pedal position so that if I want to take, retake, control momentarily, all I have to do is depress the pedal slightly and the cruise "backs off" until the pedal returns to the "neutral", fully released, position.

Since the major ones have been talked about ..

1. Better turning radius.
2. Single Swipe of wipers (flicking the stalk)
3. Better air flow for the back seat occupants.
4. Better access to mainatinance items oil filter, fog lights.
5. Lesser step (vertical) difference between gas and brake pedal (currently the difference is so truck like .... pain to operate if you are wearing sandles ... one has lift the leg instead of pivot on the heel.)
6. NO to the new ES headlight shapes. (although I feel that is on its way in  )

Man, I just got mine.. I almost don't want them to satisfy my entire wishlist, or else I'll have to trade up! I second many of the good ideas already here, but I rank them as:

1. Steering wheel audio controls
2. Better turn radius (the Jeep was much better here)
3. Memory for mirror positions in addition to seats, maybe adjustable pedals for the wife
4. Mark Levinson
5. Cooled seats
6. Cooled glove compartment (SAAB has these, you can cool a drink to about 40-45 degrees in one of these)
7. remote liftgate (so I don't have to see that cheesy Lincoln Navigator commercial about sudden rain anymore)

2). 5 speed automatic

3). Tuck window can be open (Like 4 Runner)

1. Pay closer attention to interior panels so they won't rattle
2. Keep the sunroof from popping under hot to cold temperatures
3. More map lights

Default map lights

I need a decent map light a whole lot less than I need a place to store sunglasses. Please.

I don't. I don't want to get rid of my sunglass holder.

Default Definitely agree on this one!

They need to abandon this Navtech + GDT merged database like it's the plague, and go with the new, recently enhanced NAVTECH database that provides FULL-DETAILED-STREET-LEVEL COVERAGE OF THE ENTIRE U.S., as Honda has implemented on it's new next-generation Navigation system introduced on the '03 Accord and '03 MDX. The Lexus database can abruptly leave you without instructions (even the previously calculated highlighted route dissappears for no apparent reason) when leaving the "NAVTECH-covered-areas" and entering "GDT-covered-areas" (rural, small towns).......and because the the two databases are merged SEAMLESSLY, one cannot tell ahead of time when that will happen.

And, BTW, the problem is the SOFTWARE, not the FIRMWARE......All they need to do is abandon GDT (probably more easily said, than done, because who knows what type of agreement they've had with Geographic Data Technologies (GDT)stipulating a certain time period ) and go entirely with NAVTECH's new database.

How about:
1. Better turning radius.
2. Improved climate control, especially for back seats...and for it to heat instead of blowing cold air. I don't really want to set temp to 99 to get heat.
3. Automatic door lock once the car begins to move.
4. Better (more functional) cup holders. I don't really want to encourage eating, drinking, and therefore spilling...but if Lexus is going to provide them, make them better.
5. Ability to have single swipe windshield wipers.
6. Monotone option.
7. In dash CD. For me it's ok to have a multi-cd option not in the dash, but at least do they they do in Japan and have a CD in the main console.
8. Better nav, both in funtionality...and in implementation with the touchscreen which is shared with the sound system and climate control. Bigger screen.
9. Memory mirrors as well as seats.
10. Telescoping steering wheel, with memory.
11. Sound system control on steering wheel...or voice.
12. Fewer prebuilt loaded vehicles, at least allow the buyer to not have a moonroof if they don't want one. In theory that is already possible, but just try to find a vehicle with just what you want at a reasonable price. In general all you hear is what they have on the lot and what is coming in in the near future.

PS Don't get me wrong, I really love this car...but there are always improvements to be made. The biggest pain is the turning radius; it's not much better than my Suburban.
