Since I am deployed, a friend graciously came over to install this part in my wife's car. All is well. Pulled the negative battery cable, code is gone, car is fine again.

Changing the A/F sensor's not exactly easy (more the right tools), but once it's done, it's done.
A great many thanks for serving your country. I had a cousin in the Illinois National Guard who was in Iraq as an MP for some time not too long ago, and her family and I chipped in to help get her old Escort back up and running right by the time she got home. It was the least we could do.
