Daytime Running Lamps and HIR bulb replacements

I ruled out problems with my DRL's by replacing the burned out bulb with a 60 watt halogen "plus" bulb, and the system works properly. High-beam performance is important to me, because of the desert 2-lane highways I frequently drive.

Now that I know my system works correctly, I'm still curious to hear about other user's experiences who have HIR high-beams that also double as DRL's (RX300's).
