Default Just got timing belt done....

Hello,

Just got my T-belt done on my 01 RX at 92K miles ...I was going to wait until 100K but I have some trips coming up and did not want to chance it...

Toyota dealer...$325 plus tax...

Water pump, idler, pulleys all looked great according to the tech....I had given clearance to change any of the above if needed.....They said only belt needed!!!

Still should have done it for a preventative measure. You never really can tell how a water pump looks. Just hope that it doesn't go after you had it all apart. But just my 2 cents.

Wow -- that's a pretty reasonable price, isn't it?

More and more members are feeling that at 90k water pump replacement is preemptive. In any case it should be examined. If any one plans of replacing it, my recommendation will be to buy OEM.

The last is not negotiable (in my book anyway). The 1st statement is true, up to the comfort and wallet of the owner. I wouldn't argue with anyone who did have it done, though I don't personally think it's necessary at all. Truly an engineering work of art. If Toyota/Lexus didn't recommend them at 90k mi, but rather replace when bad as so many have done over the years in other cars, they would hardly EVER sell one. At around 127-130k mi. when I replaced my DIL's while looking for the source of a 2-5 second squeal at start, I was amazed to find upon cutting it apart with a die grinder cut-off blade that it was absolutely like new in every respect.

Just checked my bill from Toyota for my 99 rx300 which had 198k at that time
They did the following
replace timing belt and drive belts: $545
replace cam and crank seals: $179
replace water pump: $265
Grand total: $989

The RX is currently in Washington State....Part was $55...Labor $268.....
I did not push to have the rest done as they said they would not recommend it....The water pumps appear to be very reliable according to them...

If i need the water pump done the cost would not be vey high...

Default where is timing belt

I also had timing belt and drive belts done yesterday .. just wondering, where is timing belt? can you see it without removing any cover/parts?
I saw there are two belts at the left (passenger side) bottom. I am guessing that's not timing belt? The shop I went to charged 4 hours of labor to do it.

Thanks.

The engine is transverse mounted, that makes the front of the engine on the side of the front passenger wheel. Timing belt is not exposed and is hidden behind the cover. [It is the front most portion of the engine block] The arrangement is "Y" shaped as it is a V6 engine.

That's extremely well done. I am going to copy this post and throw it in the DIY section.
