Aloha everybody,

My RX-300 appears to either have some slight tint or darker window glass than "normal." In other words, there is a slight tint, whether it be from some sort of film put over the glass or in the glass itself. I've seen other RX-300s with tinted windows. Has anyone has any problems with the tint? In my last car, a 1998 Acura Integra, my AM radio reception went to crap (LOTS more static only on the AM band, but a slight increase of static on the FM band) after tinting my windows. My rear window had an integrated radio antenna, and at least one place in my documentation for the RX-300, it appeared to say the same thing. There is a telescoping radio antenna on the passenger-side, towards the rear. I guess my real question is whether or not I should expect any problems if or when I decide to get the windows tinted, and what I can do to avoid any potential pitfalls, if any.

You shouldn't have any reception problems with tinted windows. Like you said, you're antenna is mounted outside anyway. There is also another antenna mounted on the cargo window of the driver's side - one for the remote and the other for the radio. I've noticed that the RX remote has amazing reception.

Which windows are you talking about that already look tinted, the 5 rear windows, or the front two? The rear five are mirror tinted from the factory, and doesn't use a film. The front windows are solar tinted (it looks a little green through them) to block out UV rays. You can safely have the front ones tinted with a mirror tint film to match the rear.

 

just had my front window redone and the back widows tinted darker as well. llumar brand has a mirrored tint that matches up very close. reception on the radio is still good, but i have an acura mdx amplified antenna on mine.......also have a pioneer deh840mp head unit, maybe that makes a difference =)

Thanks for the replies. LexRx, the windows which appeared to be tinted were the five rear windows. I apologize for not specifying that in my original post.

The antenna on the driver's side (the one for the remote) won't be affected by tinting that window then? I'm not really sure that we'll need to tint the windows, even here in Hawaii, but my wife wants to get it done. It will look pretty nice and it will keep the interior cooler, so it isn't a bad idea.

 

whjones, if you wanted to get the rear windows tinted darker, it is my guess that it would not affect the remote reception at all. My reasoning is that the tint is a film applied from the inside - that will not block the signal to the intenna that is imbedded into the glass. It would, however, be affected if something were placed on the outside of the window.

I have seen an RX that had the 5 windows tinted darker with a mirror tint film - like the one on it now - applied to it. It looked very good IMO and was difficult to see in

 

go for it. Ask the shop to see if it will affect it or not.

are you gonna go with mirror tint or just darken it? i've seen people put up those darker tints instead of the mirror tints... but i love mirror tint

 

i just got mine redone..........all mirror tint. remote works just the same. lemme see if i can figure out hot to post a pic

 

okay i have a question also ... i have a 2001 rx300 with those factory tints on the back windows. i want tint to match it. what do you guys do/got done? any pics?
