Replacement Master Remote Key Question
A couple of years ago I had done second copies of master keys for the two 2000 RX300 AWD in the household with the following method:
1. Bid on used masster key on eBay. I paid about $35-$45 for each with electronics. I used the remote key shell covers that have the logo in gold and with the imprint of the DENSO key type code.
2. Bid (or use the Buy Now) on eBay for uncut master remote key shells (without the electronics). I paid $9.95 for each uncut key shell. The seller also provided precision cut service for about $15 each. The shop asked for photos of the remote keys and VIN numbers. They sent the key codes back with the cut keys. In case of lost keys, a shop can cut the keys with the key code alone.
3. I cannot be sure where I got the description of the programming precedure - it must came from one of the sellers. The instruction is likely available on the Internet anyways.
Although it took me sometime to get all done, I got the second copies of the master remote keys for both vehicles for about $150.
I am not sure if this would work if one doesn't have a master remote key to work with. Perhaps a Toyota/Lexus dealer can program keys for a small fee.

I had done a similar procedure to what chenxingha had done. My RX only had one master when I bought it and I purchased another blank, uncut from ebay. I then purchased a already cut w/electronics from ebay. I then had a local locksmith cut the uncut key. I tried to follow the online instructions to program the key but couldn't do it. My local Lexus dealer service advisor stated that they could not program a key that wasn't purchased from them. I went straight to a Lexus Service Tech and he programmed it for me for $20. All together, my new master key cost me roughly $70. When my original master key broke a few years later, I just purchased a new, uncut blank off of ebay and swapped the electronics. That only cost me about $30 total.
Save the money and use ebay. $350 is too expensive for the flimsy keys that will break after a few years anyways.
Good Luck!

I'm a satisfied Sewell customer...ordered it on the 'net on Monday...delivered to my door (Vancouver BC) at 2pm on Wed.
Shipping was $15...and it came FedEx.
Key was $159 with the CL discount and following the info from this forum it is now fully functional.
This is a good place. Dealer was $280 +$60 to program
Cheers,
Alan
