Default Key Rumors

There seems to be many rumors out there regarding keys and replacements, etc. I understand that if you have one master you can program new keys to your car. But, what if you don't have any keys? Case in point, when we bought my wife's RX we were given one key and that was the remote key, unfortunately she lost it. I was told in another post on here that I could buy another key and program it to the car. Well it seems that the only thing i can program to the car is the keyless entry remote, the transponder can't be programmed without a master key. So, my question is this, has anyone ever had a lexus dealership program a new key to the ecm or are the dealerships still going the replacement ecm route?

any help would be great.

Justinh,
What year is your RX300?
Do you have a valet key that works?
Do you have NO keys that work? Only the new master you bought?

If you have no keys that work then you will absolutely need to go to dealer as they need to redo the entire system. I have to warn you it's quite expensive. About $1500 from what I remember.

Anyone know if he's able to program the chip to start engine if he has at least a valet key?

no worries, Lexus is replacing the ECM for free and will program the new key i bought from Sewell to work with the new ECM (doesn't really make sense to me, if they can make it work with the new ECM it seems like it could be made to work with the old) anyway, i am not worried about it, the new ECM is ordered and will be here in a few days.

Lexus apparently has recognized this is a problem and according to my local dealership (Nalley Lexus in Smyrna, GA) Lexus will replace the ECM in the vehicle one time for each owner free of charge.

I think the answer to your questions were in my original post, but to answer your question I had no keys equipped with the transponder needed, i had two wallet keys that would unlock the car only.

Your original post was a bit confusing to me so I was attempting to get you to clarify to assist you in getting a answer as soon as possible. Since you appear to have gotten your own answer on the problem I'm guessing our help is no longer needed.

Someone please lock this thread.
