I had this happen once.....is your steering wheel possibly stuck in a locking position?, then try pulling it a bit one way or the other as you try to turn the key.
Can you turn the key in the opposite direction?
Sometimes the key seems stuck because one might forget to push down a bit forward on the key to get it in the lock mode....
If none of this works.....gotta give us more info....like which position it's stuck in?.....

When you open the car door, it makes a sound like the key is still in the ignition, but it is not. I can put the key in and take it out, but I can't turn it right or left. It appears that it might be locked in the postion that is almost off?? which I guess would be counterclock wise...The radio and radio light comes on, the windows can go up and down, but the key will not turn. I tried WD40 to unlock, I made sure the gear was in park, and I tried to turn the wheel both ways to see if that would help...nothing works.

It sounds to me like a good auto locksmith could easily fix it; and they do make housecalls. That's what I would try first.

This is a common RX problem which is usually caused by pulling out the key when it is not fully in the off position. You can use the search feature on this forum for some solutions. You also may find this link helpful:

This has happened on rare occasions in my RX and GX. Dealer blames it on the weight of other keys on the ring. I tried putting graphite lock lube all over key, inserting, trying to turn, taking key out, turning it over 180 degrees, inserting, trying to turn, over and over until it works. I don't know if it really solved the problem, but each time this happened, I was able to start using the key again. Careful, though, because the key will mess up your pocket or purse for awhile because of the graphite. Good luck!

* Slam * the door on the driver's side three times - the harder the better. This will shake the whole car - insideout - and knock loose the stuck points. Works for me like a charm!!!

Frustration, when sufficiently immersed in it, works every time, doesn't it? Originally Posted by lexuspll
