BHP Question
I am confused about the proper BHP rating of my RX300. I have read from different sources, one that states 220BHP (usually non-Asian countries) and 201BHP (Asian countries). My Lexus Salesman isn't even sure!!! I bought my RX300 in Hong Kong. Did Lexus tune down the BHP for Asian countries and is there any way I can get it back up to 220BHP?
Would bet that the Asian rating is measured by JIS standard whereas ours is DIN. Same motor, same power defined in different ways. At least we don't have to try to think in kW, like they do in Australia.
These are the specifications I found for the Hong Kong version:
Max. Power (DIN hp/rpm)
201@5600 (148kW)
Max. Torque (Nm/rpm)
283@4400 (205 lb ft)
As you can see, it is measured in DIN hp as 201. Thanks.

Well, I can only speculate. Tighter emissions controls for newer vehicles in Asia (seems unlikely, but I don't know)? Intake/exhaust more restrictive as a result of underhood interference due to RHD (but then the Brits would have lower numbers, too, and I don't think that's the case)? I am clueless...........
