Default Air Filter Box

Happy Easter everyone!

My air filter box has finally had it. Every plastic ear and/or plastic hinges are shot. I've tried rigging it and alternative methods for clamping shut but obviously it was a band aid.

I'm looking for a new box and have two e mails out to parts suppliers but haven't heard a price quote yet. My second option is something like this: http://www.racinglab.com/weapon-r-dr...xus-rx300.html

Can someone help me out with deciding OEM versus the second route. I figure OEM may be more expensive anyway?

Wait until you see what the parts suppliers say (I don't know offhand what the airbox costs). If I were doing the air intake, I'd do the Secret Weapon Intake from Weapon-R, as the Dragon Intake did nothing for me.

Thanks Lexmex,

After I posted I was actually noticing what you're referring to and found a good price at JC Whitney for $201.99 for the Secret Weapon.

I'll wait to hear how much a box will go for.

I think this part is best (less expensively) found from somebody parting out cars (e.g., a Lexus recycler (junkyard)). You can find some of these companies selling used parts on eBay, if there isn't one in your area.

Wow! $379 at Sewell, and so far $160 w/o shipping is the cheapest at various salvage places.

I've got a K&N in it, maybe I'll just wrap it with tape! LOL!

I actually wrapped my airbox with duct tape when I first started drag racing it back in mid-2004.

Do you have a picture of what it looks like on your air box now so I can see what happened?

Thanks! Lexmex. Basically, the two end plastic seats are broken, so the top box cannot be held in place. These two seats are closest to the engine.

I also have one metal clip (closest to the battery) plastic seat that is broken. All of the snapped off plastic seats are on the box itself, not the top.

Last picture, only one remaining metal clip holding the top on.

Keep in mind that if you ever sell this vehicle in the future you will have to probably get a new airbox.

For the time being, one thing I might try is to get maybe 2 small c-clamps on the weak areas where the box likes to pop open and put a small c-clamp on both sides of the juncture at the middle of the box.

Man for that price I would take box out and fiberglass it with some sort of clips or even maybe som metal tabs that you could pass a screw through....Think outside of the box.

Large zip-tie will clamp the top to the bottom.
