I received my '01 RX airbag in the mail today, but it doesn't have a wiring harness connected to it Does anyone know where I can buy one or if Lexus dealers even sell those individually? I can't use the one on my '00 airbag b/c the connections on the '01 airbag are different. The '01 RX and ES airbag should be the same right?

Please help!

Nick, I wish I could help, but I don't have a clue.... Just call Lexus Service and ask them....

 

My plan is to call the guy who I bought it from and see if he has a wiring harness, then to call the Dealer (parts) and see if I can just order that part by itself...hopefully. I don't want them to know what I am doing to my RX though - I don't think they would approve. Right now my RX is sitting outside w/o battery power and no airbag :eek:

I thought it was odd that the '01 airbag felt a little lighter than the '00. The silver part on the back is the ignitor. I holds the chemicals that explode when given an electrical charge.

A CL member, jmezo, did the change on his '00 RX so I know it know it will work. I think now all I need is to get my hand on a wiring harness. Things never go right for me the first time, I should have expected this.

Just curious, when you got the airbag did it say if it was a next generation, or two-stage, air-bag? I just saw a Lexus commercial w/ the new ES300, demonstrating the airbag which opened w/ variable force depending on the impact... but it didn't say that was specific to the ES300 sedan, the commercial appeared to be more about Lexus airbags than about the new ES300.

I looked at the material that came w/ my '01 RX300, but didn't see anything about it.

Hopefully, it will never matter!

 

RX300_ATL, that's a good question. I think the two-stage airbag came out in '98 - the technology that is - but it still isn't mandantory to put it on vehicles. The airbag doesn't say one way or the other. I would guess that it is since I think the same aribag is used for the ES and RX as well as the GS. Also, the connectors for the airbag changed, as you can see, from '00 to '01, so I think this may be a reason why.

I think I'm just going to sell the da*n thing. I really want to put in on my RX, but don't think it'll happen. Maybe for the better, some things may have changed, like you said, the two stage airbag. I have put it up for sale in the classifieds If I can get what I want out of it I will sell it, if not, fine, I really like it!!
