Default car keys...HELP!!

I just recently bought a 2000 rx300 the another day, but it only came with one key. The key is not a remote key. It's just a regular car key. I bought this car from a used car dealership. Does anyone know where I can make another copy of the key? I was going to go to the Lexus dealership but I figure that it would cost too much.

I think the dealer owes it to you to produce the correct master key. I would make a bee line back to them to tell them they owe you a proper master key for the car. I am not a fan of buying a car from a used car dealer anyway. These are the kind of issues that come up- the used car dealers usually get the left overs- the stuff the new dealer takes in on trade but doesn't want on his lot so he wholesales it, where the used car dealer buys it. I doubt you'll have much luck if you have the car and he has your money, but I hope I'm wrong and he does the right thing. Check with a good locksmith that is capable of doing what you need done, not all are. It is likely to be expensive. Good luck!

As code58 already said, the dealer really should provide you with a master key. But if it is a used car dealer and this wasn't discussed before the sale, It's most likely not going to happen. A new 00 RX comes with 2 master keys, one valet key, and one credit card key. The master keys have the remote built in. The valet key has no remote and does not unlock the glove box. But you first need to determine what kind of key you have. It may be none of the originals. It may even be a master that someone had made as a non remote. First question is does it open/lock the glove box? If not it's most likely the original valet key (not good). Next question has to do with observing the red flashing security LED to the left of the steering wheel. It should flash about once every second with no key inserted. If a master key is inserted it goes out immediately. If a non-master key is inserted the LED stays on solid for about 2 seconds then goes out. What does yours do?
You need a master key to program the ECU in your car to accept new keys. Without it the ECU needs to be replaced or re-flashed. But there are other options. First find out what key you actually have and post back.
