I went to the dealer today to have a smart key that I bought of ebay programmed to my car, they told me that since its a used smartkey its locked to another key - do you guys know of anyway to have it programmed to my car or am I SOL?
I got a programmed key re-programmed to my car, but it involved bringing all of my keys to the dealership and doing some fancy reset thing... maybe one of the Lexus Techs can chime in.
wait, your dealer said you cant program a used key to your car? to my understanding i thought any dealer is capable of reprogramming your key fob? can someone clarify this.
I lost one of my fobs and had the extra one recoded at the dealer so if someone found my fob it wouldnt work with my car. I would think its the same process with a used fob but not too positive. I have 2 extra used fobs I bought off ebay I was going to have coded to my car so I hope they can.
The smart keys can be programmed as many times as you want. However, a master reset will have to be done with all your keys, which will cost more because of the labour.
OK. So I bought a key from a friend from his car. He sold the car and found the spare key later and gave it to me for 20 bucks. I asked the dealer to handle it and they said they need the original car 2 deprogram so they can program it to mine after... WEIRD I KNOW!
That doesent sound right...I've never heard of anything that couldn't be re programmed. I could see them needin all they keys to give all of em different codes.
I recently lost one set (had the spare one, both master) and now i'm hoping to buy an used one from Ebay. I called various dealers to have their quotes and funny, some says that they can only put the same code as the 2nd in on the new one, other say that the can wipe out the old code for a new one.
All i want is to change the code to make sure that the lost key will not find its way to the car. Even some dealerships told me to reset the computer which can cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
