16 bottles of ATF fluid stay red for only 3 days, then turn purple!!!???
I bought a case and half of Toyota Type-IV ATF because the dealer gave me
a special deal... only $4.25 per bottle.
After the first drain/fill, the ATF fluid got darker after a short drive, which I
fully expected, since that only drained out half of the ATF in the transmission.
About 100 miles later, I did another drain/fill..... then another one after 300
miles. The last time, the ATF stayed clear red for two days. On the third
day, I checked the ATF and it had turned slightly dark and purple.... I figured
there must be more old fluid remaning, so I drove another 50 miles.... when
I came home, I did one more drain/fill.
At this point, it's a total of 4 drain/fills, or 16 bottles of new ATF. That should
have really cleaned out the transmission... or so I thought... I checked the
ATF daily... for the first two days, again, it stayed clear red, like new fluid.
But on the third day, it turned into this dark purple fluid again.
I drive about 75 miles daily...
Does anyone have any idea on the cause of this? or is this normal?

I wonder if it might be what I like to call tranny sludge. I had this issue about 5 years ago and had a flush done on a trip to Florida (that's when I lived in Mexico), but the fluid had turned silvery pinkish prior to the flush and I felt from bits of the metal in the tranny worn off over time. Never had the issue again.
Would be interesting to see if you have a photo of the stuff in a jar or on a piece of plastic (paper is kind of hard to see) and if any small bits are in the fluid.
Also, have you changed the filter/taken a look at the pan? Also, were any bits of metal/sludge to be found on the front differential drain plug (which is magnetic)?

Are you draining from the pan as well as front differential?
