Default P1130 and P1135

Hey Guys,

Great site! Found a ton of useful stuff. I've done some searching and think I've narrowed down my problem but still need a little bit of your expertise.

I have a 2000 RX300.

Code P1130 and P1135 came up the other day. Thought it was the MAF sensor so I took out and cleaned out and reset the light but the light came on again with a few miles. Did some research on this site and know think it is the o2 sensor (bank 1 sensor 1). Couple of questions.

1. Just wanted to confirm that bank 1 sensor 1 is the one in the rear (between the engine block and the firewall).

2. How difficult is it to change that sensor? Is it a DIY type of job? I do my own oil changes, brakes, fan belts etc. so I am a little mechanically inclined.

3. Do I need to put on a lift? or is it accessible via ramps.

4. For those of you that have changed it on your own..any hints? (i.e. soak in liqued wrench overnight? Change it when the manifold is hot?)

Thanks

I have a 2000 RX300 as well. Same issue. Planning on taking it to an independent repair shop. Did yours resolve ? Let me know

Yes, changed the rear (bank 1 sensor 1) air fuel sensor, reset the light and that solved the problem.

For those of you that are going to tackle it on your own, here are the answers to my questions in the very first post.

1. Yes, bank 1 sensor 1 is the one in the rear (between the engine block and the firewall).

2. Difficulty on a scale of 1 to 5. I would say about a 2.

3. Easier if you out on a lift but definitely doable on just a set of ramps (which is what I did).

4. Here are my hints are as follows:

a. rent/borrow the oxygen sensor socket from autozone.
b. Once you locate the sensor spray some WD-40 and let it soak overnight
c. In the morning or when you are ready to do the job, turn the engine on briefly (very briefly..I let it run for just a second or two) to heat up the sensor for easier removal.
d. You will (or a least I did) need two hands to un-do the harness/connector socket which is located on the wire end of the sensor. It has a clip that you need to press and pull apart simultaneously to remove. This was the hardest part when I did the job as I was trying to un-do with one hand, but was impossible to do with just one.
e. Bought the part from irontoad.com for $165, part # 89467-48011.

Hope this helps.
