Question Hydrogen Generators

I recently heard about so-called "hydrogen generators" that help to increase mileage and fuel efficiency.

"A Hydrogen Generator is basically a device that you can build and install yourself that creates a burnable fuel called Brown's gas out of water. You use your car's battery for the electrical current and set the system to only energize when the ignition is on. This produces hydrogen gas on demand without the need to store it like you would with hydrogen fuel cell technology."

There are tons of information about this topic in the Internet, you can actually buy these systems of the Ebay.

I am not a car genius so would like to hear experts opinions on this topic.
Has anyone tried it? What is the effect and how bad is injecting hydrogen into the air intake etc....

More logical and proven way is injecting more oxygen into the engine. Two proven ways to improve power for a given displacement is turbo and supercharger.

The problem is not with burning hydrogen to gain power, but with the energy it takes to produce (separate out) the hydrogen. [2nd Law of Thermodynamics] It takes far more energy to produce the hydrogen then you would gain from burning it. [from retired Professional Engineer]

Welcome to CL, Tondar!

bob's right; thus far, all of the alternative fuel options have proven to be hoaxes - based on the fact that when the whole energy picture is viewed, the great majority of these solutions require more energy than they deliver. As a very learned engineer once told me, "there ain't no free lunch".

Some technologies simply displace the energy source. We like to think electric cars are environmentally friendly because they do not pollute. The problem is that while electric power itself is pretty clean, somewhere upstream of that vehicle is a coal-fired (nuclear, natural gas, etc.) power plant spewing nasties into the atmosphere to provide the energy to charge the batteries.

For a great deal more on this topic, have a look at the Clubhouse section of this forum. or even its sub-forum, the Debate Forum where these questions are often brought up for comment.

So true.

I read it as "Bomb". Hydrogen as gas is very explosive. So any add on [which is typically not very trust-worthy], dealing with explosive gas, is not worth the risk.

Best advise to save fuel is "dont drive as much". Dust off the bicycle, or walk it will improve your health.

Combine errands, drive when there is little traffic. Keep the vehicle in top form (most efficient).
