Oil Type
I just became aware that Castrol makes a synthetic blend of GTX and synthetic which my garage offers. Has anyone used this?

One has the option of
1. Natural Oil.
2. Blend
3. Synthetic [what can be legally branded as synthetic in US]
4. Synthetic [European standard].
Castrol sells all of the above ... #4 is a bit hard to find. 1 thru 3 are available at Walmart.

Here is what I recommend,Go to your nearest Auto-Zone,and look for Castrol Syntec 0W-30 European formula. On the back label it says; made in Germany. That is the stuff to use (if they carry it) If not,go for the Royal Purple 5W-30.I have had really good results with that also.I am looking at your location, and you may also want to consider 10W-30 if Castrol is unavailable.(Due to your hotter climate)
Just keep in mind, the manufacturer suggest #1 (my previous post) of the right weight and regular replacement.
Any of the better choices is your call. You may run into oil leaks if you go from non-synth to synth. [Not guaranteed but be aware]

Thanks Salim for the advise. I will carefully watch for leaks. They told me with the Castrol synthetic blend (as opposed to total synthetic) I could switch back to natural oil in the future, if I wanted to do so.

Not recommended but after working/managing my uncles gas station from 72-80 during some HS /College/grad school I've blended synthetic and regular 10-40.....I just keep it clean in all cars~FWIW~ Good Luck!
Truely,The GC 0W-30 (recommended by LexMex) Surprised me how well it works in the 1MZFE.I was very skeptical at first, now i wouldn`t use anything else.Since it is a heavier 30 weight oil,(hence the European formula)Don`t let the "0" part of it scare you off.it is very well suited for a southern envirnment.Plus being a full synthetic,it is suitable for cold weather as well.

At my last oil change on 6/19/08 I changed to 5W30 Castrol Syn Blend 55/1, according to the invoice. Castrol says it is recommended for short trip normal usage. I have a 2000 RX300 FWD delivered on June 28, 2000 and have only put on 51,620 miles in eight years. Short trips are my norm.
