Wink seafoam

Yesterday I had a little time on my hands, and decided to clean my pcv system, and the air intake inlets (with air intake cleaner). I started with pouring the seafoam down the pcv line.(lots of white smoke) wich lasted quite a while.then, I sprayed the heck out of the intake inlets.(wich were not to dirty,I was surprised about that.)Took a brake to eat, came back outside, put everything back together, did not start rite away,(tried real hard, but didnt want to fire up)I got out, gave it another minute, and she started.White smoke every where,(sounded like the Christine car when he first got her, missing, rough)Anyway,I let it run, still smoking btw,and she finally straightened out.(I was outside at this point)I go back in to the car,my dreaded check engine/vsc light is on.But the car seems fine now.I go in to get my scanner, plug in, code p0300 was in the computer.multiple random cylnder miss fire.Well I new what caused that,I heard the miss firing going on myself,I just thanked GOD I didnt screw up my a/f sensors.I cleared the codes(both hard, and pending)And took off for a spin. Now,I dont know how many of you out their watch Nascar,But do you ever see when they are on the track, and blow a motor, and all that smoke comes out the back? THAT WAS ME! people on the road were looking at me like, what the hell? I was cracking up,Cause I knew their was no real problem.Went up on the freeway, and she finally cleared out. What a difference it made in start outs, much more throttle responsive now.But I was truely surprised at how long the cleaning agents took to burn off.My advice to people out their is,I wouldnt do any of this stuff, with out a scanner,or code reader.I would have assumed I screwed up my A/F sensors,if I didnt have a scanner.

this stuff doesn't work.

while back, I got a can of seaform. instead of using it on a $10k (?) engine, i decided to test it on my lawn mower first.....

before I do the seaform treatment it on my lawn mower, i removed the spark plug to check the cylinder. i can see the piston was covered with carbon build up. some were also on the spark plug tip. after the check, i screwed the spark plug back in and do the seaform treatment by following the instructions on can.

after the treatment, i removed the spark plug. piston and spark plug look the same. so, I sprayed a little bit of air intake cleaner into the cylinder, screw in the spark plug, and ran the mower for couple minutes. to my surprise, half of the carbon build up were gone. i repeated the steps and all carbon are gone (even on the spark plug tip). the piston is all shiny now.

By the way, I don't recommend you spray air intake cleaner into your Lexus engine. I did it on the mower to show the carbon deposit is not caked on (can be removed chemically)

I have used seafoam all my life and never had bad results. In fact, I just did it to my RX and the engine feels great. Nice idle, smooth acceleration. Not to mentions all the build up it burned during the treatment.

Yeah,so their you go,seafoam haters!! I know it works for me.And why cant you spray air intake cleaner into the air intakes? That is specificaly what its for. Some people use brake kleen, regular choke cleaner etc.At least this stuff is made for what I used it for.(the air intake)

A word of caution, make sure you just use the right amount. I know of at least two dingbats down here who got hold of the stuff and over did it and fried some ignition coils.

some people say this stuff works. some say it doesn't. well, my test on the lawn mower say it didn't do a thing.

for those who say it worked, did you look at the cylinder before and after the treatment? just because it throwed out alot of white smoke doesn't mean it is cleaning. you can pour some plain water into the intake to see the same affect.

for those who say smoother idle and acceleration, that probably just an imagination. the engine idle rough when you have the stuff in the engine. after it burned off, the engine back to normal. so you think it is better.

unless someone can prove this stuff work scientifically, i say it is useless.

as for my comment on air intake cleaner into the lexus engine, I meant not directly into the cylinder. as always, follow the instructions on the bottle.

Yep, people should use whatever they want. It's their d*mn own vehicles after all. Just don't try to "hook others up" to their eBay accounts, as some lamers have attempted to do here over the years.

For those who are interested in keeping your vehicles going for the long haul. Check out the October 2007 issue of Consumer Reports. In which several high mileage owners shared their secrets. (There's a 1990 Lexus with 330K miles.) All stressed about keeping up with regular maintenance and repairing small issues promptly. None mentioned any miracle product or snake oil.

I have never used any snake oil, engine flush, fuel injector cleaner, oil additive, etc. in my RX300. Yet it still runs like new at 118K miles. Though according to those snake oil scary photo marketing, my RX300 should be totally seized up and inoperable by now.
