Default Oil filter tightness

Hi,
I was wondering how tight does the oil filter need to be? The last time I changed it i tightened it by hand and torqued it a quarter turn with filter adapter and wrench, and it was majorly difficult to remove for the next change. I'm thinking it was torqued too much on the last oil change.
Thanks.

The instructions are typically on the filter box. I think you need to turn until contact with the seal and engine, then turn 3/4 additionally by hand. Anything more and you will regret it later, especially on the RX where filter removal is a major headache!!!

I tighten to the point that I could not turn it by hand. So far no leak from the filter.
In addition to GC, last oil change I installed an oversize filter (FRAM XG3600 equipvalent): same pressure bypass valve, same diameter and thread pattern, just 0.5" longer. Benefits are more filter media to store dirt, a slight increase of oil sump capacity for the same $ of a FRAM 3614 equivalent.

If you look at the "O" ring on the OEM filter, you will notice that the ring is really small and if you overtighten you will get metal to metal contact and loose the seal. Tool should not be needed to tighten ... keep in mind that the tool can even crush the filter casing.

I only tighten by hand and use shop towel to get a good grip and turn a bit more. Has never leaked.
