Hood Release Cable Adjustment
The cable for the hood release on my 1999 RX300 has become very loose. I have to reach behind the pull lever and further pull the actual cable to get the hood to release. I'm afraid it will slip/stretch more and I won't be able to open it at all. How do you adjust this cable?
I have taken the latch apart and I do not see how to adjust the cable. Any ideas?

For safety the hood has 2 latches [one realsed by cable and the other by hand].
If the cable breaks you will be pretty much hosed. Till a diagnosis and fix, You can close the hood one level (without pushing it down) till you have it fixed.... hopefully no one steals your battery etc.
There are two end of the cable (one at the release) and the other in the engine bay at the latch, It may be worth pulling the whole cable out and examining if there is a break in the middle. I am suggesting this as the cable should never stretch. If you had the problem for ever then the adjustment would make sense but if it happened recently, then full examinination is necessary.
If the cable breaks, you will have to break in the hood from the grill or below. Both can be expensive and difficult.

How do I pull the cable out to examine it? Both ends have stops on them that I don't see how to remove without cutting.
I don't believe the cable is broke. If it was, I can't see how it would release at all.
I had recent body work done so I believe that might have something to do with it. Unfortunately, the body shop is out of town so I'd like to solve this myself.
Is replacing the cable difficult? Expensive part?

I know this is an old thread, but I just encountered the same problem with the hood release for my 1999 RX300. The cable appears loose and the only way to get the hood to open is to grab the cable with a set of needle nose and pull until the hood releases. Hopefully there is an adjustment method somewhere..
Thanks, Chet
