I have an 2002 RX300 with GPS navagation. A few days back the screen indicated "no disk detected". I removed the disk and checked in on the computer and it looks fine. However, I purchased another disk and tried it. same thing. Anyone know if I can have the DVD unit fixed? Or, do I have to buy a new one from Lexus $$$

I had an issue with my Nakamichi CD unit once and basically I ended up having to run a cleaner CD through it before it would work.

Barring some major system up-chuck, that is probably the cheap solution. Try putting a dvd cleaner disc into the unit and spinning it up. Follow the directions on the cleaner disc carefully. Otherwise, the solution may be kinda pricey - unless you can swap one in from a junkyard.
I actually had to also do this with the tape deck (since I use the cassette adapter with my XM Radio which does work this far south). Had the infamous Coke spill at McDonalds I talked about on this forum and the tape cleaner worked like a charm.
However, do let us know kwhoughton if this works for you.
I once had a Pioneer aftermarket CD player in my 90 325ic and that turned out to be some small piece busted inside. Found out there was a recall on the piece and got it taken care of under warranty. Good thing to since most I could not stand most of the early 90s radio (I apologize to all who do) and love 70s music.
I ended buying a new navigation computer on ebay. Lexus wanted $1760 uninstalled exchange. I bought a new one on ebay for $750 exchanged and plugged it in myself. everything works great.
I have a late 2001 GS300 and have the same issue with "No Disk Detected Issue". I tried to check get the disk out by sliding the open door but the disk does not come out. I called a Lexus dealer and the Service Manager said that he never had seen a "No disk detected" issue.
For the units purchased on Ebay, are these Lexus units?

I know this is an old post, but no one mentioned the fix for this which is to remove and replace the motor that drives the laser "sled' in the unit. I just fixed my dads RX300 NAV by replacing it. PM me if you need more details.
I followed the advice of a fellow member. I removed the disk. I removed the GPS Brain from the passenger rear trunk area. Opened the GPS box. Took out all the screws to the GPS unit and flipped it upside down. In the middle is the motor model number PPN13KA12C. I found a 9 volt battery and attached two wires, one to each battery post. Then on the other end touched the negative and positive leads to the motor. Then reversed touching the leads to the opposite ends of the motor. I did this about 8 times. The motor activated each time and I saw the plastic mechanism underneath go back and forth. Then I carefully lubricated the tiny plastic gears on the end of the unit. I put it all back together and reinstalled it and inserted the disk. It works! Saved tons of money took about an hour to do everything.
