Default Squeaking Steering Wheel

Hey Everyone,
New to the forum, just got a 2001 RX300 and love it! There is one small problem that is begining to annoy the S#@t out of me. No mater what tilt setting I have the steering wheel at, it continues to squeak as I turn it. It is not a terribly loud squeak, but enough to annoy you after a while.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or do you have any advice on what I can do to fix it?

I have the same problem! Its more evident when it is cold. (It was squeaking like HECK in the winter)

I have no idea how to fix it.

Default Common problem

If the sound you here is like a creaking sound theres a rubber boot that the steering wheel goes thru at the firewall it dries out spray a little white lithium grease or WD40 at the base of the steering wheel and the creak will stop.

Question

I to have the same problem , only it is a high pitched kinda sound and it seams to be comming from the area behind the wheel where it meets the coloum. Is this the noise you are talking about? Will the wd40 also fix this?

This is a common problem with the RX. I've lubricated my RX's rubber boot twice over the past 1-1/2 years. It immediately elliminates the squeek. With a flashlight, just follow the steering column down to the firewall. You'll easily see the rubber seal. I use lithium grease.

Default Thanks

It seems like a number of you have the same issue. It is definatly not a creaking sound, just a light high-pitched squeek. I tried spraying some lubricants into the area where it seemed like the sound was coming from, however nothing changed. It migh have even worsened? How far down the steering column are you talking? I sprayed directly behind the wheel - where the stationary column meets the rotating wheel.

Respectfully; the previous post ..... " With a flashlight, just follow the steering column down to the firewall. You'll easily see the rubber seal. I use lithium grease. "

If you choose to spray some lubricant, don't use WD-40 as it will eventually dry out the rubber boot. WD-40 is water based. Try a pure silicon spray instead.
