hello everyone! My first post!! Anyway, problem with our 1999 RX300 is that the tail lights don't work. Fuse is fine, brake lights are fine, wiring looks good, bulbs are new. From researching, I think it may be the tail light failure sensor. Does anyone know where I could find this sensor on the rx300? Thanks!

Is the in-dash warning sensor ON(bulb)? Or your tail light(s) dont work (bulb,fuse & wiring)?

For the first case do a search and you will find plenty of matches.

If it is the second let us know and we we will scratch our heads over it.

The taillight sensor light is not on. About a week ago, it did come on for a few seconds, then it went away. Then a couple days ago, all tail lights went dead, and the sensor light stayed off. I replaced the bulbs (cheapest thing first, you know), but that didn't fix it. Fuse is fine. I checked it, and side markers light up (they share same fuse).

May have nothing to do with it, but worth a shot at asking dealer

 

Thanks for the link, although this appears to be a different issue....my headlights work fine in any position, it's just the taillights.

 

Fern, I know it was a while ago, but did you come up with a solution? I have the same problem - plus my hi-beams don't work.

I do have a Lexus installed towing package, and I had been towing some things (we just moved) around when this seemed to happen. But the tail lights don't work, even though the brakes, signals, and side running lights all work. The low beams work, and the fog lamps work - but both hi-beams don't work.

Oh, and I don't recall seeing any sensor warning lights on the dash (ever - but other people have driven my car, so it might have come on briefly when I wasn't driving), either way, it isn't on now.

 

This is the RX300 forum. The brake light failure sensor IS located under the left rear quarter trim panel on the RX300. Note that this is a BRAKE light failure sensor. If the other lights are out, then this probably isn't the problem.
