Default RX300 check engine light

The problem was intermittent for a couple of months. The light is on all the time now (over a month). This is after I upgraded the gas from 87 to 89. Dealer diagnose problem as air flow sensor I believe. Told me it would cost around $300 or more. The light isn't blinking and I haven't notice any strange sounds. Do I have options other that forking out over $300. Feedback welcomed.

Buy a toyota or aftermarket air flow sensor and have an independent mechanic do the work. On Rockauto.com a Mass Airflow Sensor is $69 or $79, depending on which one you buy. If you put it in yourself, your total cost is less than $100. An independent garage shouldn't need mor than an hour labor to do it, so it would certainly be less than $200.
