Default Worldwide differences in the RX

It is interesting the differences in the packaging of the RX around the world. In many countries the 3.0 litre engine is still the only available engine. In the middle east the 3.3 litre engine manages 252 hp.....I wonder if this is a difference in the units by which the HP is measured ? I think that the 0-60 times are the same these cars so probably the engines are the same. I noticed in the UK that the DVD entertainment system is located in the headrests ! That would have been a nice option and would have allowed me to have both the DVD and large-opening moonroof.

This is exactly what I was trying to get at in the other post.

In the Middle East, the fully loaded RX is $46,000 but it does not have the DVD entertainment and air suspension and laser cruise control. How much are these options worth MSRP?

I wonder how good the RX air suspension is compared to the LX? and whether it is worth importing a slightly used 2004 RX from the US with air suspension (if it came with air suspension in 2004?)!

It is impossible to say how much each option is (MSRP). When you buy the options, they are packaged in groups ie Premium package vs Ultra Premium etc. and cannot be purchased separately.

Yes indeed. The RX (or Toyota Harrier) has many different configurations to suit local regulations.

The Middle East RX gets more horses because they don't require strict emission control. The camels polute the air more than cars if you know what I mean.

A 3.0-litre engine is used in Europe and Asia to save gas. They also get turn signal lights at front quarter panels.

Japanese Harrier gets a guard mirror for tight street manuever. And you can watch broadcast TV on the front LCD screen (while stopped.) They also have 3D Navigation with digital traffic report decipher capability.

I can go on and on, but it sure is interesting.

Don't forget, in the Middle East the RX get's green HID's because they dont have strict regulations and here in the US we only can have 4100K white HID due to strict regulations.

By green are you refering to the tint / shade of the headlights?

The actual light that is projected is white, same as else where.

Now, on the contrary, many of us do wish that the regulations in the Middle East were relaxed. It is quite the opposite. In fact, the strict regulation is the reason we do not get the "intelligent cruise control". Apparently, the beam interferes with the photo radar and all manufacturers (mercedes/bmw/lexus) have been asked not to import that option by the authorities. This is what a bmw salesman told me but i'm not sure if it was just an excuse for not having cars with that option!

rain or shine, american options are the best!

Well If you check it out on this site it says here:

Lexus of United Arab Emirates
http://www.lexusuae.com/english/specs.aspx?pageId=9578

There's a guy in this forum (BLUEMASKER) that bought a lexus from UAE and he says that his HID project's out Green colored lights.

Hi,

It was very interesting to read the forum link you posted. I am also located in the UAE and being a car enthusiast I do visit the showroom every now and then and try to keep up.

You are right in your answer regarding the variations in the HID. However, I believe the wrong question was posed to you from bluemasker due to the wrong language used by the lexus dealer in their description. The headlights/cover merely have a green tint, just as Lexus is introducing on all their models gradually (introduced on the LX470 in 2003, which doesnt even have HID in low beam but only in high beam!). The actual light that is projected is white. The dealer had given me a demo few weeks back for a few hours so I spent some time with the vehicle and I surely didnt see any green light being projected.

It's just that in this part of the world, the terminology used (even by professionals like authorized importers/dealers) is sometimes vague or incorrect due to the various mix of cultures. Imagine this, a Japanese product being highlighed in an Arabic country in English language for a mix of European, North American, Arab, Asian and Arab customers (according to the statistics, they have expats from over 100 nationalities working in this country).

Believe me, nothing we can get is here is more than what is available in the US. I really do wish they were bringing the intelligent cruise control, full sunroof and air suspension here. But again, the customer is not sophisticated enough to demand these options so the dealer wouldnt bother (i even asked them for a special order, but they said they cant do that).

With regards to the horsepower subject, you are right, I've noticed its always higher here on all cars with the same engine due to the different measuring standards.

Hope it clarifies and even though I currently only have an LX (and still contemplating a RX due to options mentioned before), I am really enjoying interaction in this forum!

cheers!

PS by the way, my 99 LX470 is also an American spec. vehicle previously owned by a caring couple in Houston. I simply love the orange turn signal cover, roof rails, side step cover, Nakamichi stereo, etc. which cannot be found on a 99 LX470 of middle east spec.

Hey 03LX470,

Thank you very much in clearifying the information. I do agree with you on the language translation and at times it can be very complicated and very complex. But after I've read your post, i now understand and get a bigger idea of what RX is in UAE as oppose to the info on the Lexus website of UAE and BlueMasker. How did you end up importing your LX from US to UAE? Wow, that's very amazing, I guess you must be the only one with the "Special" LX470 in UAE then.

Its Easy to Import any car to the UAE, although you'll save around $4000-5000 with extra features, you wont get warranty.
If anything happens to the car the lexus dealers here wont support it since the variance of make.
All RXs in the UAE come from Japan.

Ask my friend whether he can compare between RX HID and Audi
I am correct in My info because I have the Car, When you start the HID it starts with White color and then it starts to get green.

Oh i see, wow it's interesting to know that if you import a car and if something is wrong they wont fix it.. I guess it makes sense. One thing for sure is that Lexus is a great car to drive. I'm enjoying my RX

rl9905,

Thanks for the compliment but like it has been pointed out, there are some "special" LX around town. Unfortunately, they are usually imported by "gray market" dealers so when they are new, they come without warranty and when they come in used, the dealers usually buy them from auctions, fix em up, and sell em here.

In my case in particular, because I wanted a clean vehicle, I spent a few months on the Internet and finally found the car I was looking for had it shipped here. Needless to say, it cost me more than the dealers because they buy vehicles that need to be fixed up.

bluemasker, since your've spent more time with an RX than I have, i'm sure your xenon lights are green and i hope you will enjoy them.

cheers!

In Australia there's only Two packages, the low end has everything standard item as the american item i believe. The 'Sports Luxury' package adds the touch screen SAT/NAV system, Reverse Camera, Mark Levinson system and adaptive headlights. A DVD entertainment system is not available as of yet, though not many cars in Aus have that package. I dont think we have the adjustable air suspension and the engine capacity is about 172 Kilowatts.
