Clunking Sound?
We've had this problem for a couple of months now and have been wondering if anyone else has been experiencing it. Everytime I go over a bump i hear a clunk from the rear of the car? Like something is loose or something? Does anyone else experience this? It's a 2001 Rex with 50,XXX miles?

Some first gen RXs had problems with strut tower mounts (not dangerous, but can make suspension sound as if it will fall out) both front and rear though most prevalent in 99. Of course, there can be other things loose back there. Plus a 2001 may be close to needing new shocks...............
Where can I get replacements for a good price? It doesnt look like its saging in the back to need nnew shocks but I will recheck. Is the strut tower mounts a easy fix or a dealer job?

I had this problem on my 99. True Flipside, you can leave it to a pro, but being south of the border my 'independent Lexus mechanic" and I worked on the back, tightened the screws replaced the rubber lower supports and sprayed some WD-40 in there, nothing.
Now, I did have that clunk on the front left side a few years ago, and there was a broken shock, but this was more of a clanging than a clunk.

QUOTE]Probably becuz i am very careful not to run it over bumps and pot holes![/QUOTE] So am I and so is SHE; the failures of the strut tower mounts weren't due to suspension abuse. There was a TSB issued.
