Default 2000 RX Stalling

Hey everyone!

I guess its a good thing that I searched and almost no information came up on the RX "stalling."

2000 RX300 with 98000km on the odo. Regularly serviced.

It was an off lease automobile. When I got it (6 months ago) I put in 92 Octane in. 1 Month ago I decided to slowly lower the octane level to 89 for one month, and then the next month lower it to 87 and keep it that way. So far its been running on 89 for one month.

The stalling occurs when I come to a stop and the car is idling. A/C is off when it the RX stalls. The car just stutters and dies. I throw it into neutral and it starts with no problems. My idle speed is about 5-6k rpm when the engine is warm. This happened once today, and once last week. I don't want it to happen when I'm about to make a left hand turn.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Michael

Default hmm

sounds like a dirty fuel system.

Buy some BG 44k fuel cleaner (WAY better than techron) also buy some Carb Cleaner to clean out the throttle body.

If its still happening due a tune up, new plugs and wires.

Dealer could not diagnose the problem. They spent most of the morning working on it. I'm thinking its the gas change. I'll keep you guys updated!

That year and mileage typically means that the idle air control valve is sticking and needs to be replaced.

Awesome! I will check into it!

Since the dealer did not "find" any problems with the vehicle when I took it in, if I suggest to them to replace the IACV will they do it under the extended warranty? Is there anyway I could persuade them to do it?

Update: The dealer did "warn" me that my battery was defective. I figured it was just one of their money makers so I passed it off.

Today the car wouldn't start . Got it boosted by CAA (AAA Equiv) drove it home and got ready to go out to buy a new battery. Car wouldn't start again.

I ended up going to Costco and purchasing a Kirkland Signature battery. Installed it and everything works fine now *fingers crossed*. I hope the battery caused the stallling problems at idle.

We'll see!

Update,

The RX starts fine every morning and does not stall anymore. I am confident that it was the battery.

I hope others can benefit from my woes!
