Hey Dandysc3-

Did the high pitched whine stop after you cleaned your air filter? I have the same sound in my 01 rx300 that is *very* annoying. I was just getting ready to call my service rep to see about replacing the fan motor or something to take care of the sound.

The pics and directions look so accessible, I think this will be the easy fix (if the whine goes away) - something I can do myself!

Thanks- this is a great board loaded with excellent info.

It took me at most 1 minute this weekend to open the glove box, pull up the barrier, remove the filter door and pull out the filter! Pretty easy. Filter looked awful after 2 years. pieces of leaves, dust, sand, dirt. I vacuumed it with the house vacuum and put it back in as I didn't have a replacement or time to wash it. I think I will just buy a Lexus replacement filter, though it might be nice to have a more efficient filter for fine particles and pollen, the filter looked like it might only have a moderate MERV.

I just changed mine and it took less than 5 minutes without any tools. Awesome! My husband says I'm earning my keep! Thanks HarrierAWD for taking the mystique out of the process.

I have a even better idea, one of which I completed. I bought a blue nylon furnace filter, just filter material no cardboard and cut the correct size and slid the filter inplace. Took a whole 4 minutes and cost five bucks. I have enough left over material to last the life of the vehicle. You can only get so excited about these things.
