Default Air conditioning filter

I have a 2001 ES300 purchased new in Feb., 01. Is it true that some 01 ES300s had
air conditioning filters and others did not. I followed the procedure in the manual
but could not find any filter even though I was charged for a filter replacement a number
of years ago by a Lexus dealer.

In that year range, more didn't have them than did, but it was still possible...

What type of filter replacement were you charged for? It wasn't an engine air filter was it?

No. It wasn't a engine air filter. On the invoice it is shown as follows:
Replace A/C Climate Control Filter w/ Hybrid Air Filter 97
1 FP -Number 88880-33020 Filter & Accessor

Yea, filter is accessable from the driver side footwell, to the right of the gas pedal. Did you check the proper location? Typically the later models (01 was the last year of that body style) had the filters in place from the factory, while older models were able to accept the filter but didnt have the filter pre-installed.
