Sporadic Shift Issue
Hello All,
I was wondering if someone can help me with an issue i’ve been having with my 2003 Lexus Rx300 with 164k which i’m the 2nd owner and i purchased from a friend who bought it new and had always maintained it well. The issue i started to have recently doesn’t happen every time but when it does it’s aggravating. When i press brake pedal down to shift into drive the shifter doesn’t move. it’s locked. i have to try a few times in a row pressing brake pedal fully or just partially and trying to engage shifter. usually after a couple attempts it works. i have noticed a click sound under dash like a relay or something when i press pedal and go to move shifter. Has anyone else experienced this issue and know what causes this ? just want to know if there is something starting to slowly wear out and will need replacing that i can tackle now?
Thanks In Advance!!

Owner's manual is a good read.
/It has information about a slotted plastic cover next to the shift lever. This cover can be popped out with a flat screwdriver and it will expose the shift interlock which can be pushed down to free up the shifter.
