And to add even more color to this thread

I was curious and asked my local Lexus dealer the cost for replacement of the aculator and here it is. $1,000 per door with Lexus

2001 RX:

Driver door actuator $573.58

Passenger rear door actuator $555.58

Labor is $449.88 each

Adding a bit of detail FWIW:

All 4 doors have a different part number.

I ordered and installed these. The only issue i have is that very intermittently i have to reprogram the remote and then unlock/lock the passenger door manually to get the remote to start working again. Its worth the $1,975.00 savings.

I replaced all four so I guess the savings is $3,975.00 😁

Well it's my turn now. Driver side rear is unlocking but not locking. The door manual lever is only moving about half way. It's cold here so maybe that is a factor.

What's the issue you mentioned about "reprogramming the remote"? Why does the replacement actuator require this?

I dont know what happens but programming it is extremely easy so i never worried about looking into it much because it happens only about once or twice a year. Its a communication issue between the aftermarket part and the vehicle i assume.

Never be in a hurry to re-program. If not done right you will compound your problems.

There is no smarts [other then mechanical] in the actuator. If the front doors inside electronic button can NOT operate the locks [lock/unlock] there is no need to look further back [remote sender/receiver/programming] etc.

There can be mechanical binding and difference in force needed to lock vs unlock.

Good to know but it seems to be working fine and I didn't/don't need to spend 4k to repair it. I have never in 2 decades experience ran into reprogramming a remote hurt anything. Sounds a bit overly cautious to me.

I understand and respect your view point as it is based on your 20+yrs of experience, and where I stand 100% with you is ...if there is an issue in programming, your approach WILL get you the right solution quicker. Granted my process is more methodical and slow.

What we are is based on what we have learnt over life.
