Code p1730
I got a check engine light after having my dash clean when I replaced my knock sensors. My car was doing a weird thing where it would freeze and then release and shift into second gear and I just now got a check engine light and a code. I can’t really find anything about that code my obd scanner didn’t even recognize it either. Have you guys gotten this code before? Also it’s done that weird shifting problem twice before I changed my knock sensors. And to be a little more descriptive about the shifting it doesn’t do it all the time just sometimes and it will shift into first gear but when accelerating into second the car will hold speed and then let go and start accelerating and shifting like normal.
Counter Gear Speed Sensor. I understand the sensor is on top of the transaxle near the starter
Search web for "RX300 Diagnostics pdf" and refer to page DI-184

i looked up what you told me so should I replace the gear sensor or is there something wrong with wiring? Also if I do I have to replace the sensor I saw that the instructions said to coat it in atf, when taking out the old sensor does atf come out?
The sensor apparently sticks into the transmission and has an O-ring. It looks like it is on top so I doubt much if any fluid will leak out when you remove it. The atf will help the new sensor and O-ring get inserted and properly seated.
You wont know the answer to the first question until you follow the diagnostic process. Or if the sensor is cheap you could just buy one and hope that fixes it.

ok I ordered a new one on Amazon I couldn’t find any nearby. I remember the manual you told me to look up it showed how to replace the “input” sensor and “counter gear” sensor do are these sensors the same? Because when I looked them up it just showed me results for the transmission speed sensor. And if they are the same part if I replace the counter gear sensor would I just have to buy another trans speed sensor?
[QUOTE=maxSteel;11773099]My understanding is they are two separate sensors that use the same part number. I would fix what's broken. I've never had this issue but from searching around some people have swapped them to see if the problem moves. If it moves it's the sensor. If it doesn't it's the wiring or connection. You may also want to pull it to verify the part number and to try testing, cleaning, and reinstalling it. I think the manual has a procedure for bench testing it.[/
ok I’m gonna replace the speed sensor thankfully I got quick shipping and it should get here Saturday. I really really hope this fixes it if not I will see about the wiring. I had a second opinion with a mechanic I know he said the whole second gear shifting weird like how I explained could be fixed with the speed sensor.
