LT 75W-85 GL-5 fluid
capacity: 1.38 to 1.47 US quarts

Brand is subjective, Mobile1 is readily available at local stores.

Does it require a friction additive?

Nothing in the manual about adding friction additive.

I have a ton of trust in The Car Care Nut. He suggests always using toyota diff fluids. Probably for a number of reasons, including having a lot of experience with toyota products. For me it makes sense because a well maintained Toyota or Lexus will have exceptional reliability. Sure you could argue that “I have a toyota with 300k and I always use Lucas fluids”. Well, there are a lot more toyota owners with 300k that were dealer maintained with 300k too. Arguably the more common story. Why research all these different types and wonder if you made the right decision.
ps when you do the change, be sure to grab the correct crush washer. It’s like a skinny little donut. I think this is the pn but you’ll want to double check it.

I just went to the stealership and had them replace mine. $135, I thought that was a fair price considering I didn't have to do a darn thing.

Just because you are replacing at the dealership it does not automatically mean you are getting Toyota branded fluid in the case of a Toyota dealership. Carcarenut talks about this in detailed in one of video as most dealership buys whatever is the cheapest and that is what they use.so be sure to ask what brand.

They used part # 819195 which comes up as valvoline 75w90 full synthetic gear oil. Not sure if that is OEM or not. Frankly don't care as long as it keeps it working properly.

All of the options mentioned, Mobil 1, Valvoline, Redline, Royal Purple, Joe Gibbs, etc have friction modifier already added.

Was just wondering if the branded Toyota stuff had it…

well, i supposedly had mine changed too at a shop in town - recommended shop. Got home, saw fluid on the ground below diff., took flashlight out and pointed at drain plug - full of road grime, plug obviously not been touched by human hands in years, still looking to see if fill plug had been removed (and maybe left out??? New caskets added????) am not happy at this point.

and this is why I always prefer to do all the maintenance myself.

  1. You should put GL5-75W-85 LX for LSD

I HAVE THIS CONFUSION ALSO

Hi guys i have 2018 is300 2.0l RWD
I noticed it doesn't mention what differential fluid it takes?
i did the GL5-75W-85 LT
and when I checked the rear wheel while the car on jack both wheels turns same direction not the opposite as it should for open differential!
my question is, whether my car is LSD so I should put differential fluid GL5-75W-85 LX?

thank you
