I remember reading a while back that our cars call for regular oil. Can't seem to find the thread again. I'm about to change mine. Is there any reason to go with synthetic? Or just stick to regular? I'm currently only driving about 3,000 miles a year.
If you have found fresh conventional stock, im surprised, as most blenders have stopped making that years ago for cost reasons, so everything in use these days is technically a blend.
That being said, the engine is not a known for oiling troubles and while i can make anecdotal claims that say everything is dandy, my ocd would at least stick with any oil type just change it every 6 months.
Ideally i would switch to mobil 1 0w30 esp as its an excellent oil has the approvals, in vehicles whose certification standards are tough to meet.
why would you want to use a BLEND, that is the question? and on a RCF?? To me, no sense. You do know that a blend is basically just 10-20% synthetic. It's a marketing tag. It's not like you're saving money all that much. Go FULL synthetic and stay w/ your annual oil change interval. Amsoil Signature Series is one such real definition of Fully Synthetic. Pennzoil is another good one.
Been using Amsoil Signature for years on all my cars. Change oil at 5-6000 miles or 1 year. I believe Amsoil and Redline are the only 100% synthetics in the US. Mobil1 used to be before their "Labeling" court case with Castrol years ago.
Hopefully I won't get too much flame for this. I've been using Euro spec 5W-30, due to reports about some fuel dilution in the 2UR-GSE engine. Euro oils are slightly thicker than many recent 5W-30 API SP/SQ oils that come with Resource Conserving feature. Fuel dilution will make euro oil go out of spec slower.
But euro oil or not, I still stick to at most 1 year/5,000 mile oil change.
The car spec was for 30 weight dino oil. When purchased, the sales guy threw in lifetime oil changes by some mega company. The mega company was going to use a synth blend which I questioned since spec was dino oil.
Not true - Lexus doesn't specify the type of oil. Lexus specifies the grade & viscosity:
