Default Lexus RCF Cold Start Nerf/dampen performance

When I drive my RCF when cold, it dampens the performance greatly. The rev limiter goes down to 4000rpms, manual mode barely works and it takes about a good 10 minutes before the cars performance takes full effect. Is there a way to bypass this or a tune to remove this. I do realize that this is in place so the cars engine doesn’t get damaged, however, I do not like this feature and want it removed.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, lot's of GREAT information here and GREAT folks to share it with. As far as your question. What what you are experiencing is normal and designed for engine and powertrain longevity. Also, if that behavior was removed you would invalidate your powertrain warranty. IMHO, you really don't want to disable that feature even if there were a way. Ten minutes is really not a long time when the trade off is decreased life for your RCF.

Welcome to the board.

That detune is a safety mechanism built into the car engineered by Lexus to give the best longevity and prevent extra wear on the engine and transmission as the fluids are cold and rather thick until they properly reach operational temperature. Why would you want to remove it? It takes patience of 15 minutes or so and the redline moves up to 7300 rpm (rev limiter around 7400 rpm) and the transmission shifts go to full shift speed and also held at rev limiter in manual mode. If you want to keep your RCF long term, this type of features ensure the car operates flawlessly when it has 150K miles on it.

You should try asking a place like RR Racing if they can bypass it but I highly doubt it. That would involve some serious reprogramming of the ECU. Your going to have to learn to live with it or get rid of the car and get something else.

Maybe the OP leased the car, and plans to return the car when the lease ends, so he's not really concerned about longevity of the drivetrain? Just a guess here. But I would say most modern cars come with such a "feature", so it's not like one can really escape this nerf, not without an ECU modification that is.

Maybe RR can make the change for you like Brendanf suggested. I do see the option to change if in the orange virus software. I guess they would just change the values to 7300 all around?

Not really sure why you would want to remove this, but what I do it’s just start the car with the Lexus app, and when it shuts down. That’s when I go get in the car and start driving. Even then sometimes it’s still not fully warmed up. So then I just put it in eco mode and drive it until it’s fully warmed up and then drive it like I want to.

NEVER DRIVE FAST when your engine is cold. It is no different than waking up and sprinting a 100 yard dash,,you will pull something...the ECU does that for us...

Literally every car with OBDII has different cold running conditions, even a Toyota corolla. You aren't going to do damage that matters in 10 years by redlining your engine and driving like a jacklerabbit as soon as you hit start; you'll do damage that matters in ~10 months.

You could always drive it hard when it's cold to warm it up faster

Does the rev limiter come down with the lowered red line or is it just a warning?
