Default Any differences from 2015 - 2017?

Hi RC-F forums,

OG member here on CL (owned a 2nd gen GS), took a step away from car community and Lexus for a while and looking to come back.

Currently on the market for a RC-F, comparing between two 2015 and 2017.

Is there any notable differences between the two?

Anything to look for directly when searching for a RC-F? I hear TVD is a must. One of the two cars I am looking at currently does not have a moonroof either, was that something that you had to option to NOT include?

The biggest difference is, the 2015 and 2016 have fixed dampers while the 2017 has the adaptive variable dampers. Depends on the type of driving you do. If you are going to put a lot of miles on it then AVS will be a good thing to have. I have the pre-2017 and I am very happy with the fixed suspension. It is my occasional driver so I don't mind the car being stiff full-time. The 2017 gives the ability to adjust the damping based on the surface you are driving it on.

I have TVD/carbon fiber package and I really like the TVD as it makes the car feel very lively and the nose very eager to turn both at slow speeds and higher speeds based on the mode selected (normal, slalom and track). However, it is a subjective choice as some prefer the simplicity of the LSD as TVD is complex. People will make argument on both side of the fence. I personally love the TVD and totally feel it was worth the extra money. The standard RCF have steel roof so the one you are looking at does not have the optional moon roof.

I had a 2016 and now a 2020. The previous car didn't have the adaptive suspension and TVD. Now that I've experienced both in the new car, I wouldn't go back to not having both despite not putting on a lot of miles. The adaptive suspension has a smoother ride and the TVD is on a different level, cornering-wise. It's amazing.

Depends on your priorities... I'd go with the one with the premium package, or if they both have that, then see if both have the MK audio system. To me, only the premium package is worth the bucks. I don't believe the MK audio is worth the 4 grand extra. Also, my 2015 RCF drives great without TVD, or AVS. If you like the typical "Lexus" suspension feel, go with the AVS if one has it. If you are more of a sport driver, go for TVD if available. Moonroof just came with my car, wish it did not have one, but it was not a deal breaker, (used it once to see if it worked, and never touched it again).

RCF is a great luxurious sporty car, to me, the best one out there for the money, even without TVD, or AVS, or ML (like mine!). The extras may make it better, but the basic car with no added options, is still one of the best road handling cars, good as a daily driver, or when you have a need for speed, no matter what year it is!
