Hey guys, hope everyone is staying safe during these crazy times. In about a month or less hopefully I will be looking to purchase the dream-car I've always wanted. Going forward, you would've imagined I've done my homework and research on this forum for any questions and concerns i had. At the moment, i see a few for sale that have caught my interest and one of them happens to be a 2016 model. My question is, is the AVS system only available after 2017, really worth it? Should I wait for a 2017 model? I mostly drive NYC/ upstate NY roads so i do encounter rough roads and this will be my daily driver. Thanks in advance.
Welcome. AVS is a very subjective choice. If you like controlling your car's stiffness then yeah, AVS is very useful to have. You can soften it up in eco, normal modes, but when you get to sport and then sport+, it gets stiffer to stiffest. I have never driven an AVS equipped RCF, but I have read it has 30 way adjustment in terms of rebound/compression. Bottom line, if you have bad roads with lots of potholes and expansion joints etc. then AVS would be worth it as it will make the car more compliant over those surfaces and you can dial-in the dampers to sport+ when you want to do spirited driving on a smooth surface.

Yea, I was sorta afraid I would get a reply like that. The 2016 I'm looking at is such a good deal, but after reading your message I'm leaning towards waiting for a 2017 model. Thank you very much for that insight.
I've had a 2016 and now have a 2020. IMO, the experience with the fixed suspension on the '16 felt stiff to me. The AVS on my '20 makes the ride much smoother. The sensors adapt to the road conditions. Now that I've experienced AVS, I wouldn't go back to not having it. If you plan to use this as a daily driver and encounter rough roads, I recommend the AVS.
AVS is fine if you don't plan to overhaul the suspension with springs or coils. But as Rolla mentioned, it is VERY subjective.
If you plan on overhauling, AVS would be a waste of effort. Depending on your needs and driving habits, you can choose appropriately. I have a 15, and typically go aftermarket. So, AVS would not be my choice personally.
it's a plus imo to have the feature if you daily the car. i have a 17 and put aside avs for now to run cks coils. my experience is 1) avs on stock height and 2) lowered on coils. no experience with avs on lowering springs. its also not my daily and mostly drive it in the hills and hwys during good weather or short trips around town. on the stock setup i could definitely hit rough roads faster like mentioned but on smoother roads with coils, being lowered and having them dialed in, the car tracks really really well at speed. at least for me. plenty of smooth hill/mtn roads in my area. when we took off the stock setup one shock was already leaking and just 20k miles on it. i believe this is a thing with avs, maybe research that.
i may go back to avs if i make it a daily. only one car right now would do that. maybe in 2024. lol.
Hey Adreano17, As i mentioned earlier yea this is gonna be my daily driver and i do encounter rough roads when i go into NYC. Thank you for your insight, always need a objective view also.
Thank you everybody for their insight. After reading all your comments, ive decided to wait for a 2017 model especially after reading Ctrl-F's reply. BTW the one i was looking at was a 2016 model with less than 7k miles on it plus its Lexus certified and under $50k.
My man Rolla summed it up pretty good above! Bought my 2017 New and you can immediately feel the difference in ride quality as soon as you flip it into Sport+. Don't even get me started on potholes either!! 🤑
Yea, After RollaXRS's & Ctrl-F's comments, I'm set on waiting for a decent 2017 model deal. I drive into the Bronx everyday for work and don't get me started with the potholes on Cross Bronx Expressway and the Bronx River Parkway.

Hey. Matter of fact I got my 2017 new from Bay Ridge in Brooklyn! If youd like my personal POC info for the GSM There let me know! Between us (and Rolla knows this too) had to sign a NDA due to the cost he gave me! They're always seeking used RC-F s so it may be worth a call. Up to you.
