Default Brake Job

Does anyone know if you need any proprietary tools to replace the brake pads? A friend of mine has all the standard tools you would need and offered to do it.

NOPE. Nothing special needed.

Several months ago I personally changed out my front pads with my very common tools in my own garage. BTW, these pads are often changed out at trackside for those who track their cars. Do it must be able to be done "on the fly". Very easy to do

You will want some brake caliper lube. I use this stuff:

Amazon Amazon

Also to make the job easier I installed Earl's Solo-Bleed when I did my ISF:

And don't forget good quality Brake Fluid, I use this stuff:

Lou - what are you using the caliper lube for? Its intended purpose is caliper sliders. These brakes do not have sliders, so curious where you are putting this stuff.

Thanks guys. Is there a good place to buy oem pads online? I used to buy parts from Sewell. But I believe Lexus Corporate made them stop doing online sales a few years back.

Also, is it safe to assume I only need front pads at this point? I'm at 19,000 miles. The censor came on a few weeks ago, but I'm working from home so haven't been driving much at all.

^^^^Yes, but you really should measure to rotor thickness to be sure if it's in or our of spec.

A small amount on the pins and the backside of the pads.

I've been finding great pricing from Bell Lexus lately. Coupon code MAY is good until the end of the month for 10% off.

Thanks again. So this is all I need to order from Lexus? Or do I need any other parts from them?

As a side note, I called my local dealer to get a price. They quoted me $410. I asked if they would match that other dealer at $330 (their price after a 10% discount). They did without even looking it up.

Yes, the kit is all you need. Check rotors, replace those if needed.

One other option is that Lexus released a set of pads that changed the friction material to produce less squeal. Not sure if anyone has reviewed them to know if track performance is reduced.
Part numbers are: 04465-0W200 Front & 04466-0W080 Rear

The only time I’ve had any squeal is right after washing my car. It goes away after a a few stops.

These rotors are stupid easy. No measuring required. When the slots are almost gone, the rotors are done. Already went through this on the wife's GS F which has identical rotors. The slots are pretty handy for "just look at the rotor and see how much service life is left."

My friend chickened out after watching a video. Said they're more complicated than he's used to. So I called Lexus and they said it would cost $150 in labor to install the pads. Which sounded reasonable. When I dropped it off, they told me, just so you know, we might have to replace the rotors. At 19,000 miles, I couldn't see any way the rotors would need to be replaced. There are no vibrations and no squeal. But they just called and told me it needs new rotors for $1,200. I have to believe they're full of it. I told them just to do the pads. So they replied, ok but just so you know we won't warranty it against noise.

^^^^I would have asked them to measure the thickness and to compare it against the minimum thickness recommenced by Lexus. Just saying the rotors need replacement without the figures to back it up is foolish IMO and doesn't give you a reference.
