Twin turbo rear mount RCF
Ran across this today on YT. Can any knowledgeable turbo guys chime in to possibly explain this setup. Never seen this type of setup on a front engine car before, looks to be located in VA.
All tuning and performance nightmares aside, the fact that all of the plumbing is in front of the bumper (and presumably sits just inside the bumper cover) means that one 5mph rear-ender and that car is a mess.
Interesting build, but not at all practical in the slightest.

Obviously it will work, but its not a great way to turbo charge this car. Exhaust cools the moment it starts leaving the cylinder, the colder it gets, the less volume it takes up, and the slower it moves through the piping. Placing the turbine wheel 12' back is a significant difference in exhaust speed from an engine bay turbo and will result in reduced efficiency & response time (lag). This is why the newer turbocharged V8s use a "hot V" approach with the turbos about 2" from the cylinder heads. Additionally, you now have about 12 feet of intake to pressurize before the air gets into the cylinder - this will really dumb down the response and make it feel a lot lower horsepower than it is.
Lexus and Yamaha put in a lot of effort to make this particular engine have a very fast throttle response time from the factory, this turbo setup basically throws all of that out the window. I'm sure it completely changes the car to be slower in 1st/2nd and more power but laggy in 3rd-8th.

The cooling exhaust doesn't loose mass, and as long as the pipes are kept closer to stock diameter and the turbine sides are kept on the matching smaller side the rear mounts will work fine. Plus the extra piping and cooler temps mean closer to ambient temps event without intercoolers on the compressor sides. The problem with these setups is pumping the oil to the turbos without leaks and for long-term durability... Plus the car looks hideous with all the Tron treatment done.
Hopefully a decent tune was done on the car too... But frankly I wouldn't have gone this route for considering boost on this car.

Not really. This was done to the IS F very shortly after it was introduced to the US market, and it was a complete disaster. Details are in the IS F forum. Needless to say, its a really poor method of getting boost for all the reasons mentioned in this thread, and more.
