I order this after reviewing the post on the carbon fiber intake. I also bought the K & N drop in filter. When I open the OEM filter box attach to intake pipe there was a screen and another filter type material that I assuming was for sound deadening.
Removed it. Had a little trouble installing it until I figure it out. Traffic was so bad this afternoon did not get a good feel for it. But the exhaust sounded a little louder on idle. When I did punch it, it felt a little quicker. Didn't feel any lag.
^^^ Like Ron said, that screen is there to back the pleats up so it doesn’t clapse when the filter is dirty and have high resistance.
Prob ok when the filter is new/clean...
Did you remove the plastic webbing or the white charcoal filter? Charcoal filter is there for emissions purposes, the plastic webbing is there to support the filter. I imagine the intake would be louder without the charcoal filter.....
Looks good. Probably good idea to put back the mesh.
Looks like the same part for ISF and carried over to RCF.
Does anyone think there would be a problem with that? I know the RCF throttle body is larger and if this tube is same diameter would that affect flow much?
It's funny. I noticed that filter in the video I watched for an intake and or filter changed. Our Solara had a very similar filter that took up the entire width/length and sat underneath the air filter. People said it wasn't restrictive but reading on other forums and Tundra guys they would remove them. I removed it a few months ago and noticed about a mpg or two increase which I thought was pretty good. I believe they are for the life of the vehicle which makes me wonder how long the charcoal can actually absorb the fumes after the car is shut off.. A couple people said you MIGHT smell some fumes after you turn the vehicle off and stay in the car. I haven't experienced that in the Solara at all. Intake sound did slightly change but just ever so faintly.
I took the intake off of my 2020 and it looks different. Seems like they revised it. I don't have a screen nor do I have the lower portion being the entire emissions charcoal filter. I just popped off the lower bottom filter as that seems like it would be a turbulent part for air to go through and around. The side filter really isn't in the way of anything so that's cool I guess.
