Default IS to RCF

Hello All,

I currently have a 2014 IS350 F-Sport (with 17k miles and $18k left) and am seriously considering purchasing an used 2015 RCF (with < 20k miles for about $50k). The main reasons for the trade is that I believe in the long run the RCF would keep its value where as IS would lose its value tremendously and the V8. An used IS is valued at about $34k and an used RCF is about $50k.

Now, do you think the car will retain its current value? It seems that ISF held its value pretty well. Or is it just worth it to trade Period?

Thanks

Go for the RCF😁😀👍

Of course I'm biased. I have a RCF!!! 😀😁👍

Keep in mind the MRSP for the RCF starts at higher than the IS350. BUT if you shop around you can get a heck of a deal. Plus like you said, RCF has the last of it's kind left which is the V8. If the V8 goes extinct within the Lexus lineup OR only reserved for the later on soon to be introduced, LCF (if it gets the twin turbo V8) at $150K+ as rumors abound. Then the RCF will be highly sought after down the road.

The Resale value if the RCF is dog dodo. I don';t know about the 3rd gen IS. But, IMHO, you should never consider a car an investment. I bought my ISF and have modded it to the point that I luv the car. I have had my F almost 9 years now and have no plans to get rid of it. And yes, up front, the ISF resale value was also in the crapper. But as time has gone by, and the ISF has gotten scarcer, resale values have sort of leveled out.

I switched from a 2015 IS 350 F and it was the best decision I'd made. Wish I'd done it sooner. No regrets at all. The IS is losing value. Mine did upon surrender. Make the trade!

get the rc-f. Anything that makes you happy is a great investment.

But if money is a thought... you're basically looking to spending $32k for resale value later? (owe $18k on current IS and want to spend $50k for RC F) If you think the F will resale for $32k more than the IS, go for it, but I wouldn't think so.

...and based on your "used IS is valued at about $34k and an used RCF is about $50k" the math is way off.

Although Lou may not look so smart in his sig, and while "never" may be a slight over-reach, I think in this case he speaks the truth....
This is way I see it...
if i were to keep the IS, i would still need to pay that $18k.
But if i were to trade in the IS for a RCF (used at around $50k), i would receive about $10-14k for the trade in and plus what I would be paying for the IS ($18k), which is about $28-32k. So $50k minus lets just say $30k, I would be spending approximately $20k more for the RCF.

So the question is, is RCF worth the extra $20k and would the value of the RCF stay $20k higher than an IS in the long run? If the answer is yes, I would be gladly get a RCF.

you are absolutely right.
However, like what I have said above, if the value stays up than I would have same amount of returned value at the end. That is only if the RCF stays high and IS stays low.

yeah, i can only go by resale values of 2IS vs ISF. Same year of those vehicles resale value seems to be about $30k difference. And seeing 3IS everywhere on the road vs RCF, I would project that it would be the same.

If you live in the now, then the RCF's depreciation would be high compared to competition. In the long term, 4 years and up, it is right on par with everybody else.

get the RCF for the V8, do not expect it to retain value any better than any other vehicle, most likely it will be worse because it is a niche vehicle with a V8 motor, both of which will hurt it's resale. Manheim Auction has them ranging from $46K - $54K depending on mileage (2015 only)

I have 22K on mine if you are interested in buying it for $52k... Which is a fair deal based on the current carguru listings in the area:

I think the RCF will almost always be worth the extra $20k you would spend now. Look at a 5-9 year old IS350 vs a 5-9 year old ISF with the same miles, there is about a $20-25k difference. No guarantees it will stay like that, could be better or worse going forward, so buy what you like as long as it isn't too much of a financial stress.

whats funny is the ISF resale was dog doo doo too. i bought my ISF 3 years old and the resale value was just like the rc-f. don't get mixed up with the first 3-4 years. that is where cars will depreciate the most. it will level off soon. the rcf is only 2 years old.
