technically it is 3 model years old. 2015, 2016, 2017. That is how it is seen in the resale world, not by physical years, but by model years.

Trade in for a 2015 with around 13k miles in excellent condition is around 44k, private party would be around 48-49k. The depreciation is in line with all high priced luxury/ sports cars

THAT is Really HARD to Believe! Lol! WHERE can I find a 15' with 13k miles for 44k? & Don't forget you said in EXCELLENT Condition!

While some dealers may be selling them cheaper, as you can see from the picture I posted earlier, 20K mile 2015 RCF are advertised for $52K
I was offered $38K at one dealer for my RCF, and I firmly believe they were quoting me on a 350 F sport, because they had no clue was the car was to begin with.
I was offered $42K and $44k at 2 different CarMax locations on the same day, while they had 3 2015 RCF's with more miles than mine with no haggle prices of $52k, $54k, and $57K

more like marking up as high as $54K to sell, there are 2 dozen 2015 and 2016 RCF's on Manheim Auctions ranging from 9k miles to 30k miles, including 2 Repo's and the lowest auction price is $42K for the 30k mile car, the rest are hovering between $48K and $54K auction pricing with 9K to 22k miles.

dealers with trade in on the other hand can manipulate the trade in price vs the new car selling price. Therefore, their offer price is never firm. Also a buyer can never disclose they have a trade in until the purchase price of new car is set in stone

well yeah, carmax has a 20% markup from their purchase rate. But that doesnt mean they will sell at that price. Usually carmax offer represents what the black book goes for though.

and I agree you should never discuss your trade until you have agreed on a purchase price, and they should be handled as 2 separate transactions and not linked together, sadly most of the time that doesn't happen because people don't understand that concept, but yeah it is the only way I deal with a trade/purchase.

Well actually it does mean it will sell at that price, Carmax doesn't haggle, they have a set price, they may lower the price after a given time, but they will not sell at a lower than advertised price, they don't haggle.

carmax advertised price is not market competitive at all and takes month to correct when their car doesn't sell. I remember right before buying my 2015 RCF for 58.7k new, carmax had 4 2015 listed for around 62k with around 10k miles no haggle price. The saleswoman can't believe it when i showed her my dealer paperwork. IMO carmax pricing is for the desperate or market uneducated that needs a car right away
