Bought the car with a very slight moonroof noise when you lift it up around 4 years ago and never thought anything of it. Hardly use it. Today I thought it has been been louder than usual. Not sure if I just need to grease or lubricate something. Only makes the sound when I open and close…it doesn’t do it when it slides back.

I wanted to get some takes and advice on how to resolve or diagnose this. It’s not a big issue. Again I hardly use the moonroof.

Having same problem.

Last 2 Lexuses also had same problem. Motors were replaced as noise due to uneven opening from poor torque.

Lubing is a temporary improvement but not a fix unfortunately.

 

By the way.

Had the RCF moonroof removed due to rattle 2 years ago. Rail bolts tightened and new rubber seal installed.

 

oh poop…it’s the motors? What did you live exactly for the temp fix?

Moonroof rattle fixed under warranty.

 

Moonroof on my GS was very rattly. Replacing the seal fixed the issue.

So just an update on this.

i was able to resolve the noise using a silicon lubricant spray on the motor and hinges. I guess the lubricant was really dry so after spraying on the track, motor, and hinges and opening and closing the moonroof a few times the noise disappeared. I shot the videos below so you can hear the difference.

im always very good with regular engine, brake, and tire maintenance but always forget sunroof / moonroof maintenance. live and learn I guess.

How did you lubricate the motor and hinges.
