Default Water leak inside car (suspected sunroof)

Hey all,

Forgive me if I have done everything wrong in opening this thread but I have just joined in the hopes of getting advise.

I got my 2018 RC300h black edition imported from Japan at the end of December, I am based in Ireland.

I have loved every second of having this car but I recently had an issue where water was dripping from the A pillar into the car. We did have very heavy rain and wind and I washed the car the day before (but I have washed the car several times since I got it) and I haven't experienced this before.

Long story short I ended up sealing up the sunroof with duck tape while the weather was bad to stop the rain coming into the car. I left the engine running and made sure the car was dry so I had a blank slate so to speak and with the sunroof sealed, the car remained dry.

We got a dry day yesterday, I cleared out the sunroof drains with some strimmer wire and there was some dirt but no obvious blockage. This was done on both the left and the right drains on the sunroof. I got a large syringe filled with water (around 250ml) and repeatedly flushed the drain on the drivers side with no leaking inside the cabin, it is also freely flowing out of the car behind the front wheel. So hopefully no further issues will arise there.

The issue is now on my passenger side, the water is successfully draining out behind the front wheel but it is also leaking inside the car at the bottom of the glove box. However the leak isn't constant. I thought after cleaning the drain pipe with the strimmer hose it was fixed but hours after this while driving, the water started dripping out. Which leads me to assume it's pooling somewhere and with the movement of driving it was spilling out.

I removed the cover under the glove box that has the footwell light in it, I saw old water stains, which you can see circled in orange and the area circled in blue was filled with water before I cleaned it up.

Apologies for the very long post and bad quality images (I took them from a video).

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I'm just a bit lost on where to go from here.

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Ac tube is probably clogged or disconnected. Makes water drip on passenger or driver footwell area. I was caught off guard when I felt a fat water drip on my toe near the pedals lmao. Best way I can reference it is https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...nder-dash.html

there’s a black tube if you remove the center console trim and peel the carpet back a bit you should see it

Thanks for this, unfortunately the water for me is coming from the opposite side, not the centre console but from nearer the door where I have my finger pointed here. As I was pulling on it there was water behind it, not a lot but enough to notice. That's when I removed the cover with the footwell light and saw water stains and the small pool of water.

Yes they’re all one and the same. Your roof drains are clogged or disconnected. There are 4 in total on top that drains all the way down to the floor and the tube that comes out of the wheel fender liner. Your AC also dumps thru there too. You need to check from the top starting at the moon roof -> down A pillar, and thru all the way down to the wheel.

Best way for me to illustrate it. On the front of the car the drains locate right where the airbags on the A pillar are accessed from inside by safely removing the trim that says airbag lol. There’s a translucent tube that runs along. If clogged yes it will go straight to your entire headliner. Run trimmer wire thru it or even 3d printer filament. Nothing sharp.

the rear holes run down your window weather strip connected to the body (you’ll see a small hole if you remove it, if that’s also clogged the water will back up

Thank you for that, and the picture. Unfortunately I've already ran strimmer wire down the drains and the water is draining out of the car where it should according to the image you sent, which indicates to me there is no block?

This is what I used

did it go all the way down for all 4 holes?

id really suggest removing part of the A pillar to check if the clip that holds the roof drain tube is disconnected. Along with clearing out your weather strip to make sure it’s not clogged either. Something is disconnected or backed up on the roof and headliner that isn’t allowing the water to fully drain out and pile up.

I removed my moonroof weatherstrip to do something and I basically forgot/was too lazy to put it back on… for the last 2 months…. With heavy rain. But surprisingly my car hasn’t had water intrusion or is flooded lol. Luckily I did also clear out the drains all the way to the wheel well a year ago.
