Bit, the openning of the throttle body (TB) is at least as large as the tube from the MAF. In fact the stock tube is smaller in diameter prior to where it curves to meet the TB. Also, the MAF itself is the same diameter but the meter element restricts flow so it flow less than just an open pipe. All combined, a larger tube allows the MAF to flow more, the air to negotiate the turn better and more pressure to reach the TB. Remember, each part exherts some flow loss. There is surface drag, bend negotiation, obstruction drag, etc. All losses reduce mass flow. The more you get to the TB the more potential power you have. Consider a stock car taken to a higher elevation (lower atmospheric pressure) and the effect is less pressure reaches the TB. Under part throttle there is no difference but under full throttle power is down as a function of this loss.

Another reason the GS400 kit will not fit the GS430? The MAF sensor is a different shape betweem the 2 cars. I believe one is rounder than the other, something like that.

Question to everyone with this K&N intake: If you could go back in time before you bought it, would you still buy it?

Bit, coupled with the L-tuned exhaust, is the increase in noise level at higher rpm's annoying or satisfying?

Does your car actually feel more responsive, or do you all like to think it feels more responsive (to justify the mod install) ?

What's the url or phone number to call if I wanted to buy it?

(1) Yes.

(2) Very satisfying - I'm not sure what noise the intake generates itself below 3000rpm, but it's a really great sound - I'm really happy with the overall sound now - wouldn't change a thing. Of course I have the TC which as I've said has been a positive factor in overall sound because it keeps the rpms a few 100 higher in most situations.

(3) I'm really not sure whether it made for any performance gain at all. It sounds faster.

Thanks Bit, it sounds as if this mod is a no brainer.

So what is the best price you guys are getting from this site? Also, for those who have the K&N are you guys seeing better gas mileage during normal driving?

I think I paid some really cheap price through them, like $260. I don't believe I get better gas mileage, probably because I like the sound so much I tend to lead foot it more!

How did you get that price Paul? I want to do that mod now, but on their website, it is listed at $321.00

Yeah $260 is unheard off....no one seems to be letting it go for under $320

Paul, how did you work that deal?

Guys,
I just ordered the complete K&N intake system. It is the the new stage II as someone posted here earlier. I paid $289 for it.

If anyone is interested you guys can get the same item for the same price.

I ordered it from www.performanceproducts.com
I have used these guys in the past and they are excellent. I order a lot of things for my benz from them. They pretty much deal with german cars but they sell the entire K&N line.

Call the main order number at 800-752-6268 and dial the extension for x7634. The sales person name is Ron. Tell him DrewGS4 just ordered this from you at this price.

Make sure you tell him its either for the GS400 or GS300. Their part number is 113800 and K&N part number is 57-9011. Not sure if they make this for the GS430.

I will post up pictures of the install when I get this item.

If anyone is wondering, I did not go for the SRT because its whistles at low RPM and is a bit louder than the K&N and obviously double the price. I know I would of got more horsepower with the SRT but I am not sure if I will keep this mod in the long term as I have a habit of swapping things out if they are too loud like my borla exhaust.

No, I received an email from K&N on Friday that says that it is not available for GS300.

Question Since K&N isn't available for the GS430...

What's the general stance on the Injen intake for the GS430?

Yes, I performed a search and perused the long and painful thread of Static911's head-to-head-to-head-to-head comparison from last year, but there wasn't much conclusive there other than that using the SRT without its ECU makes people quite mad!

So for $200 is the Injen intake worth consideration? I don't care how the intake looks with the hood open since I'm not a car show guy. I'm more interested in how it would change (preferably enhance) the driving experience of my GS430. The thread I referenced above claims the following:

1) Baseline dyno:

Hp: 239.3
Tq: 244

2) Injen <--- ClubLexus choice! You will see why when I post the graphs...

Hp: 244.4
Tq: 261
But unfortunately the dynos were never attached...at least not in a form I could find. A 5hp/15lb-ft difference at the wheels sounds like it would be quite noticeable, and later someone said that the Injen intake isn't very loud, so it sounds like exactly what I want.

So that leaves me with a few questions:

1. Do I have to remove the engine cover to accommodate the intake?

2. Are the gains noted above realistic? If so, when do they occur? Does anyone have access to the dyno for those two runs?

3. If the gains noted above are realistic, will they be even better in conjunction with my L-Tuned exhaust?

4. How do dealers feel about aftermarket intakes on cars under warranty? So far I've only added L-Tuned (and TRD suspension) equipment in order to preserve my warranty, but an intake with no ECU adjustment seems pretty benign.

5. Bottom line, is this worth $200 if what I'm going for is squeezing out a little extra juice?

Any first hand experience with this intake is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Scott

SCWells, in my experience, don't buy an intake for supposed power increase. The SRT one with ECU probably does give a noticable bump at high rpm (prob. after 4000) but some say at the expense of some low end lag (no thanks). I doubt any intake with no ECU will give a noticeable improvement in response. I love my intake for the sound though.

I got my full K&N intake today and my yellow top optima battery.

Will install everything this weekend and post review regarding power, sound, etc...in a separate thread later this weekend
