Maybe you have SRT and not K&N? The SRT whistles like a banshee.

The K&N intake doesn't have an ECU.

I think you're referring to the mass air flow sensor (MAF) that plugs into the intake pipe. That's a stock piece.

Here are the pictures of FIPK from K & N website for the GS400:

Here is a power gain chart from the K & N website:

The problem I have with that dyno graph is a similar concern I have about the graphs at SRT. Since the factory fuel cutoff occurs at 6300rpm how is it that these charts go to 6400-6500rpm? I asked SRT and they said the tachometer pickup was off but it is also possible that the cars tach is a bit slow and the engines actually get another 100-200rpm actual rpm before cutoff.

Either way, the K&N piece essentially is just a better flowing stock pipe. It uses the same diameter as the stock car (75mm, <3") and therefore the MAF reading is unaffected and no ECU adjustment is necessary. The power increase listed seems reasonable. Now, the SRT pipe is larger in diameter (3.5") and changes the MAF reading and therefore requires an ECU adjustment to prevent lean out. The SRT part has more HP potential and in fact with the ECU makes more power than the K&N part.

This is a decent upgrade though

Thanks for the info! Now for a variation on my other question...will this work on a GS430 or is the intake placement too different? If it won't work on a GS430, does anyone know if K&N is planning to release one for the GS430? I may call them tomorrow to see what they say...

How can the larger pipe help when the size of the opening into the throttle body doesn't change?

Well, I asked K&N whether a) the GS400 kit would work on the GS430, or b) there was a GS430 kit in the works. Here's what I got in response:

Our kits are application specific and emissions legal so they do not cross over to other years or models. Unfortunately, we do not have any information on the development of a kit for your vehicle at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your interest in our products.

How much is street price for one of those puppies? I was waiting for the Blitz SUS intake but I may give the K&N a try. I have a dyno and an S-AFC II on the car so I can run some tests and also see how the fuel chart looks like. Just dynoing the car stock I have around 244 whp and I can tell you that the fuel curve is perfect out of the box. If I tried to take any fuel at at ALL with the S-AFC I would detonate so I'll have to see if the K&N will lean it out to the point where I'll have to add fuel to keep from detonating. It's VERY hard to hear detonation on this car on the street but it's pretty easy to hear on the dyno.
