The problem is that the idle doesn't settle down after a couple of minutes. In D, it will idle when i'm stopped at 7-800, but when i put it in park, go BACK up to 1250. I am thinking that is why it was making the car throw codes

Which year model do you have? I have the 2016 model (I think my car is the exact same model year as OVT's RD car) and has been running 1.02 for almost a week now, no high idle issue, no fault codes, it has been good so far.

I have the same year , f sport :/

matt did send me a diff version of 1.02 that he said would fix the idle, but it didn’t, but I also didn’t try driving on it much. Maybe I’ll give it a go and see if the code comes up again, does it idling at 1250 do damage? Is running it anyways a bad idea?

Agreed I too am getting P0505 on 1.02, more so in the winter the summer with the idle at startup, i probably should email Matt to see if we can work it out as mentioned earlier with an idle control learning sequence. As far as your earlier question about mpg yes 1.02 likes fuel! Still totally worth it but..... i think i got around 21-23mpg vs 24-26mpg with 1.01GC. Summer has been even higher by 1 mpg on 1.01GC ( its odd but maybe its the fuel or the way the tune is affected by temps but in theory it should be better in colder temps so its a mystery to me as to why summer is better) I do 50% interstate drive and commute, so i tend to get higher numbers compared to others, I do use a fuel tracking app. On a long highway only drives i am getting 28-29mpg with 1.01GC, Overall i am pleased for the fuel eco on 1.01GC.

I do pretty much only city driving, and I’m getting 16.5-17 trying to drive conservatively 😭

I do tons of stopping and going though, my trip to work is 12 miles round trip with lots of stop signs and red lights, so I’m sure that isn’t helping my situation. I flashed back to the 1.02 revision Matt sent me, no codes yet, but the cR still isles at 1,250 RPM in Park evan after doing the idle reset procedure.

which btw consists of hooking the car up to toyflash, Clicking “reset lv “ and “reset at”

then, start the car, let it idle for 15 minutes without doing anything (no AC, etc)

like I said though, doing the idle procedure did not fix my cars idle

Oh wow yeah 16-17 mpg does seem really low! Thanks for posting up those instructions! i will definitely give that a try.... but i totally agree with you it probably needs a better-modified tune file from them(OV) before it will not set a fault in time. It might would work ok when its closer to summer/warmer temps, but with it being much cooler now i know our cars idle up a good deal already.

16-17 MPG is pretty normal for city driving only. Before the tune I would get 16-19 MPG with city only. I just drove a 300 mile trip ~90% freeway with 1.02 and averaged 28 MPG

Lol. Absolutely not. I trapped 91mph stock, and 95mph with the 1.02 tune in the 1/4 mile. My stock MK7 Golf GTI trapped 97 mph, so its slower than a stock MK7 GTI, for reference.

Yes, it does feel a lot better. The restriction of not getting more power is not from OVTune, its from the small turbo. I feel like ppl are expecting more but its not anything OVTune or any other tuner can do with this small stock turbo. That being said, whatever gains they provide is better than stock. I would not like to go back to stock, the car is total dog on stock tune. I have 0 regrets on the money spent on this tune, even though I've had to go back to the 1.01 tune, its still better than stock.

The ppl complaining about gains are the people who are not tuned. Once you're tuned, I guarantee you will not want to go back to stock. Something is def. better than nothing in this case.

I agree both tunes 1.01 and especially 1.02 feel much better than stock, not 300 hp better but as mentioned that's with our stock turbo and downpipe. I would 1.02 feels like 265-275hp. People with downpipes may be closer to 300hp depending. I love the 1.02 tune it drives so much better then stock and the transmission also seems more eager to shift and faster shifts too. Just this week i added a HPS post MAF pipe and a K&N airfilter and at the time i didnt think it would help but it actually seems to flow better around 2000-3000 rpm and that's only on 1.01gc. I will have to try it on 1.02 soon when it warms up and update this thread. I will say given what i have read here and how much-catted downpipes cost $ unless i was swapping out to a bigger turbo, i am going to hold off on any currently designed down pipes the cars. The car at 1.02 is close enough now that i am happy. Plus with our small Turbo, it seems like a downpipe with the current flang will make only a slight improvement for the cost. The only thing i can maybe see doing next is a turbo muffle delete and that's about it.

I wouldn’t bother with the turbo muffler delete to be honest. I have one on my car and theres 0 performance gain and nominal, if any turbo noise increase

Lol Golf GTI is also a lot smaller of a car

I plan to get my RC dyno'd as soon as my tune comes in front OV. I have a few mods that should make it interesting.
