Is there a suggested RPM to shift at?

if you're asking this question, you're better off staying in "D" mode. I'm going to guess you've never driven a manual either.

depending on where you're driving, either open roads or city streets will affect when you shift. keep this in mind, the higher you go through the power band (higher rpm), the more you hit higher hp and tq. with that said, you'll also use more fuel and mpg will be lower. shifting early (lower rpm) will do the opposite.

I agree, if you have to ask when to shift, you're probably better to never shift yourself. Just let the car do it.

However, cp, you're not entirely correct about low RPM. If you lug the engine, that's just as poor for mpg and engine performance (long term).

Don't say things like this, because then he/she will, and then come back to the forum asking why their car is burning oil like crazy and their valves are tapping louder than usual. lol

People always want to beat on their cars, without realizing the wear that comes with beating on them.
