Default reason for a cracked exhaust pipe assembly?

After taking my 2007 IS 250 (w/ 96,000 miles) to a tire dealership to install my snow tires I noticed my exhaust was unusually loud. Now, a few days later my Lexus dealer indicates I have a cracked pipe assembly.
The parts are $1,797.14!
Needless to say - I am curious if the tire shop could have caused this?
And is there anyway I can get them to cover or do the repairs?
I am without a state inspection sticker until I can get this resolved....

Thoughts?
